  1. You might want to recheck your logic. The possibility of the ump missing the call is one of the reasons why you shouldn't attempt to take that base. Your not following me here Nice explanation.
  2. Yes and a balk and a steal of home, infield single and a lot of other things that when added up, doesn't occur often enough to compensate for the chance of ending the inning.Or the ump missing the call. You might want to recheck your logic. 3. That's the whole thing. Reaching 3B with 2 outs in near meaningless with Gomez's speed. And that's even ignoring who he's hitting in front of. Wild pitch scores him howeverYes and a balk and a steal of home, infield single and a lot of other things that when added up, doesn't occur often enough to compensate for the chance of ending the inning.
  4. Well, at least we are perhaps a week away from the media no longer sighting the low team error count as evidence that the Brewer's defense has been good.
  5. The funny thing is that he might have been safe but there's no way that base is worth trying to take if there is any real chance of being thrown out.
  6. THIS is the guy RR thinks is our best option batting before Braun and Fielder. How on EARTH am I supposed to respect the guy's ability to manage the Milwaukee Brewers when he thinks that?
  7. If they are doing poorly, they look bored and lifeless. If they are destroying the other other team, they look focused and driven.
  8. So basically, Gomez either swings for the fences or tries to bunt?
  9. Since when did all of Michael's coworkers all like him? They didn't even want to hang out with the guy and the only guy who did was pissed at him. It just seemed forced...
  10. Because those teams tend to have more talent than us? Road games always suck but I'm not sure how good the NL West is these days.
  11. Does the value of OBP relative to BA and SLG change depending on BOP? Sure. If we create a hypothetical lineup where the 7-9 hitters have make an out 100% of the time, a walk by the #6 hitters has almost no value (bases loaded!). Of course, reality is not nearly as dramatic: 2010 NL OBP by BOP: 1 .328 2 .335 3 .364 4 .341 5 .339 6 .327 7 .310 8 .320 9 .228 Most batters get on base round one in every three AB. Pitchers get on about 1 in 4. The notion that OBP is of secondary importance for a #7 hitter is just false. The whole concept of assigning such rigid roles for batters by batting order position (#2 batter moves the runner over) is an outdated concept in general, IMO.
  12. These kind of threads have no chance of not devolving into the same tired arguments. This is what happens: Thread about Player A Thread: PRO: Player A is good because of a,b,c CON: a, b and c isn't true. etc... New Thread About Giving Player A Love: PRO: Player A is good because of a,b,c What do people expect to come next?
  13. I would think the chances of Gallardo being sent for having a 5.7ish ERA in May at zero. Furthermore, I think he would be insulted for even being asked.
  14. Every pitcher will look like he's nibbling when his can't locate his pitches. I guess he could just groove fastball down the middle...
  15. It's a negative, certainly but baserunnimg in general is a distant third in terms of runs, compared to offense and defense.
  16. Brewers playing small ball down by 4. Gatta love it! Sometimes good pitchers have bad results and bad pitchers have good results. It happens all the time in baseball so why is anyone surprised? I don't like when the Brewers are owned by some crappy starting pitcher but it doesn't happen to them anymore than anyone else. Looking at Gallardo's ZiPS projection, not including today, his ERA projection has raised from 3.5 to 3.7. I'm surprised it's that much although it's not taking into account that all pitchers do worse in April on average.
  17. http://www.baseball-refer...i?id=gallayo01&t=p&year= Plus 4 runs in 2 IP today. That's a bad start but nothing to get too worked up about. I'm sure you could look at April splits from last year and find a number of good pitchers who struggled. Like I said earlier, Gallardo gets into these modes where he's super passive and exhibits no confidence. He loses command because of bad confidence or he loses confidence when he is lacking command?
  18. If Gallardo was throwing 85, I'd be worried about his long term prospects. I am not going to get too worked up over 32 bad innings, however. Morgan, Estrada and Narveson are awesome. Gallardo is a big question mark.... it's still April, guys.
  19. Ha... I work next to the park and was going to walk over to catch a couple of innings...... I just gave my ticket away! I'm 0-2 so far this year... this doesn't count as 0-3, does it?
  20. There is an argument to be made that Gomez is the WORST option of all the starters today: Career Lines:Gomez: .246/.293/.347/.640 Gallardo: .221/.260/.425.686 But Gomez had a decent week, so we should adjust our expectations for him today?
  21. The Brewers can't afford to have a rusty Hart putting up bad offensive production while batting 2nd. Instead, they'll go with Gomez and bat Hart 6th. It's almost over...
