  1. In the post game interview, a reporter asked about the possibility of moving Lucroy up in the lineup. RR used that opportunity to explain just how important the #8 hitter is to the lineup. Yeh... really. Here's my lineup (without getting too crazy) and it seems so obvious: Weeks Hart Braun Fielder McGehee Lucroy Betancourt Gomez
  2. So you are blaming RR for Lucroy making a bad decision on the base-paths after a hit? Tough crowd. During spring training, RR couldn't go 5 minutes without talking about how he was going to bring aggressive baserunning to the Brewers. The Brewers have subsequently ran into about 1,000 outs this year trying to grab extra bases. Fair or not, RR is going to get at least some credit for these outs.
  3. This Brewer base running has been a joke this year. Whatever RR has taught them about being aggressive on the base paths needs to be untaught quickly.
  4. That's 4 crappy hit balls in a row that miss defenders..... Luck is a turning around!
  5. It breaks a guys glove? Gomez has a sub .300 career OBP. Whatever speed does for you isn't enough to make Gomez a good hitter. I hope we can all agree on that.
  6. Nice to see the other team running themselves into outs for a change!
  7. IBB included or not, here is Kotsay's current line: .246/.338/.277/.615 (74 PA) This is what he's done the prior three years: .263/.320/.391/.711 The guy is 35 years old. RR looking for ways to get him in the lineup (hinting at using him in CF!?) makes little sense. Seems like Melvin has to get some over the hill OFer every year. Once and awhile they work out (Edmonds, Kapler) but most of the time they don't. Can anyone list them all? Has to be a 30+ year old outfielder who hasn't been good in a couple of years. Some are hard to remember because they don't even make it out of spring training.
  8. I think it was being nearly no hit. The 2007 Brewers went 12-2 after being no hit by Verlandar.
  9. I think many would argue that Gomez's offensive skill set is a perfect fit for #8. He has little power and doesn't get on base very often. He's the worst hitter on the team so he should be given the least ABs. T give him an extra 100 AB on the year because of the possibility that he'll learn how to bunt just doesn't make much sense to me.
  10. "However, in my opinion, when a team with as much overall talent as the Brewers plays .200 baseball over 10 games, I think it is reasonable to expect a dramatic swing to the other side against the worst offense in the NL, as well as the Pirates." 1. The Brewers are a good team but no one projected them as elite. I saw projections from around 85-88 wins. That's a marginal playoff team. 2. I think you are falling for the gambler's fallacy. How the Brewers performed in the previous road trip has virtually no bearing on how we expect them to perform now. 3. As I alluded to in my previous response, I don't care who you are playing, you aren't going to expect any team to play at such an elevated win percentage. Sure, you will see it from time to time just like you will flip 5 out from 6 heads in a row from time to time. Possible not probable. Just to give some perspective, Greinke yesterday and now Marcum today are going up against an apparently very bad offensive team. Vegas odds resulting win probability for both games: Greinke Game: -142 59% win probability Marcum Game: -170 63% win probability Those are fairly typical lines for a pretty strong favorite. It's fair to say that if the Brewers are going to quickly get back in the race, this is the place to do it. The Brewers are at home and are facing pretty weak teams. It's not fair to say that the Brewers should be expected to take 5 of the next 6. The most likely outcome for the next 6 games is somewhere between 3-3 and 4-2.
  11. With Greinke going twice, Yo looking recovered and Marcum still dealing, this should be a 5-1 turnaround week, leaving us at a not so God awful 19-2 I agree that the way the rotation lined up makes the prospects that much better but no team "should" have a .833 WP over any stretch of games. Even with the win today, the most likely outcome is not 4-1 over the next 5 games.
  12. The Brewers have arguably the best rotation since... I don't know when. I think they will be great to watch.
  13. Greinke projects to be the better pitcher, is younger and has a better injury history. He's projected at around a 3.3-3.4 ERA. A good #2? I don't think almost anyone would agree with that. Are we supposed to tank into consideration the fact that Greinke will get the much larger contract?
  14. I don't really care what Kotsay has done in 73 PA. If RR thinks he's a good option to start, I am scared of him.
  15. A weak grounder doesn't find !+@+#! and the Crew still gets a hit! Even better! EDIT: Apparently "a hole" is a swear word.
  16. The average is like 6-1/3. I don't see how not quite two extra outs proves their "approach" has been bad. It just suggests they aren't hitting, which we already knew.Unless my numbers are off its a shade under 7. Not hitting is one thing, but the Brewers have been completely incapable of working counts and raising the pitch counts of opposing pitchers. When you don't walk and swing at everything the opposing pitchers will go deep into games which is exactly what an average of 7 innings per start would suggest. I'm saying the league average is 6-1/3. If a pitcher isn't giving up base runners, of course they are going to get not-quite 2 extra outs. You need to look at pitches/PA to see if they are going deep in the count (which isn't always a recipe for success anyway). Counsell over Hart? Really?
  17. I really hate that Betancourt is our #6 hitter right now.
  18. The average is like 6-1/3. I don't see how not quite two extra outs proves their "approach" has been bad. It just suggests they aren't hitting, which we already knew.
  19. Every batter has a great approach when they get a hit and a bad one when they don't. The Brewers are getting some pitches to hit. They are just hitting a bunch of weak ground balls.
