  1. Running Ron must not thing so, as he was playing small ball in the second.
  2. Not sure I understand the hatred for this guy. He's had a solid major league career. His numbers aren't great but he's played the majority of time in pitchers parks. He's had all of 11 AB's as a Brewer. I think Kotsay a terrible player and it has NOTHING to do with what he did in 2001 or 2011. Both are almost completely completely irrelevant with regard to estimating his current worth. In summary: Small samples (1-50 AB) = basically worthless (especially in spring training!)10 year old data = basically worthless So until you appreciate those two points, you will always struggle to understand why people have certain opinions about certain players.
  3. We have no idea how he feels.
  4. I'd be fine with Gomez batting second over Morgan against a lefty but a righty? That is just a brutal decision. Major League managers: managing with their gut since 1876!
  5. Morgan is clearly the better player against righties for sure.
  6. RE: One Run HRs http://www.baseball-refer...team=MIL&year=2010#bases Empty: 3415 PA, 111 HRs Men On: 2888 PA, 71 HRs About 54% of their total PA occurred with the bases empty. They hit about 61% of their HRs in those PAs. I don't see a league tally, to see how that compares.
  7. Morgan also led the NL in SB last year, so let's not carried away about his instincts. EDIT: I meant CS.
  8. Here's another resource: http://www.tangotiger.net/RE9902score.html With a runner on second and no outs, teams score no runs an average of 37% of the time. With a runner at third and one out, they score zero runs about 34% of the time. With the Brewers being a high K/HR offense the last couple of years, it wouldn't surprise me if the Brewers are a little below average on this category. I think that most fans just have to high an expectation in those situations (all they had to do was hit a flyball!). They also have not had the greatest OBP, so 1 run HR rate is probably a little higher than average as well.
  9. Stop baiting people. You're gonna get burned. Offering up baseball cliches as analysis isn't going top bait anyone, I would hope.
  10. You can fish around for the quotes but the last couple of years, Counsell hasn't been scared to admit he can't play everyday. Seems like even a straight platoon would be pushing it but who knows.
  11. Even with his terrible defense, Prince projects at around 3 wins above average for 2011. With some of the glaring holes in the Brewer's current lineup (SS and CF), I think there are scenarios where the Brewers could get better this year by trading him. Betancourt is replacement level and Gomez is about a win below average. Trading Prince for an average 1B, SS and CF would probably make the team better. Perhaps Gamel can take over in a few months and Melvin can free up some money with a move like that. So hard to speculate on stuff like this, though, since we have no idea what's really available via trade.
  12. Platoon Morgan and Gomez. until Hart comes back, anyone but Kotsay in RF, as he can't hit OR field. Fish around for a no hit, slick fielding SS. That's all I have.
  13. Morgan can't hit either. No major projection system has him with over a .700 OPS for 2011. He gets on base more than Gomez but has no power. That said, there's really no excuse not to platoon Gomez and Morgan.
  14. Betancourt, Kotsay and Gomez are batting a combined .167.
  15. Please note when this thread was started: http://forum.brewerfan.net/viewtopic.php?t=24461/Our-Current-Starting-Lineup-Does-Not-Look-Good
  16. There's no need to include the 9th spot in order to exaggerate your argument. But you have to keep in mind that there's an All-Star OF on the DL as well as a promising young catcher.I included the 9th spot because I have to watch them hit and it's generally painful to do so. I'm not suggesting that Brewer pitchers should hit better; I am suggesting that this offense is not very fun to watch in its current configuration. And that has NOTHING to do with the result of this series.
  17. Watching the 2nd, 6th, 7th,8th and 9th batters in the order is painful.
  18. Gomez should bat 2nd because he's fast... that's the level of analysis that was used to make that decision, correct?
  19. He did nothing differently in spring training and he's done nothing different so far in the regular season. Gave JS something to write about.
  20. I care about OBP and SLG, in that order. BA is already included in SLG, so it's largely redundant to show both when we are talking about overall run production.
  21. That was great pitching by Volquez, not bad plate discipline by Gomez. Crazy knee buckling curve, offspeed strike yanked foul, then gas. Hey, I was just asking! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Think gameday called all the pitches strikes anyway.
  22. Managers have an inside bet on who can have more bunt attempts.
