  1. In 212 PA. Yipee. 99.99999% of the population couldn't do what Arod did with any amount of drugs. Hundreds of players likely juiced and the vast majority didn't come close to 600 HRs. If you want to say it's horribly tainted, I'm with ya. But if you want to say Vizquel's accomplishment was more impressive, not even close, IMO.
  2. And at least two of them were caught at the wall. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  3. How many ground ball singles the Brewers have tonight? Stop using up all your luck!
  4. Any team that would use Fielder's RBI count in trying to evaluate his worth deserves to suck.
  5. The Brewers have the rights to Hart and Fielder though 2011, so there was no need to HAVE to trade either of them now.
  6. Wow, totally missed the money Phillies are getting. Nevermind.
  7. I find it interesting that Oswalt's currant contact is apparently irrelevant in this discussion.
  8. You are using 100 games of data and bad metrics at that. You can make plenty of arguments against advanced defensive metrics bit this isn't it.
  9. Why should we take our "fan cap" off? If you want to be objective, you have to. If you don't care about that kind of stuff, crazy glue it on for all I care. (fixed code --1992)
  10. Any way you cut it, it was a bad outing. Some bad luck involved? Sure. But it was still a lousy outing for the guy who is supposed to be our "ace." The results were lousy. And if I see a guy put ace in quotes one more time, I'm going to break down and cry. It's just a silly subjective label that people use any way they see fit. I mean, a true ace never loses when the fans of his team are emotionally invested in the outcome of the game.
  11. If you watched the game you could tell that Gallardo just got rocked. Alot of hard hit balls. Some balls were hit hard but 5 of the 10 hits he gave up were on ground balls. Hell, the results of hard hit balls has a lot of luck involved. But we are just supposed to ignore all that, apparently. All I'm saying is that we shouldn't rely exclusively on the result of a ball in play to determine if it was a good or bad pitch.
  12. I saw Yo give up a bunch of groundballs though the infield. Am I apparently the only one who thinks the result of those is COMPLETE luck? I know announcers ignore that stuff but do we have to?
  13. I just want to make sure I understand. In order for a player to prove his allegiance to an organization, it's not enough to just accept whatever he's offered. He also has to make sure the offer isn't too high? Why should a player feel an allegiance to a particular tea,m anyway? Because the the franchise was given exclusive control of the player via a draft? Sounds like a good reason for a person to give up MILLIONS of dollars? I can't anyone really could believe that, provided they are willing to take their fan cap off and look at the situation objectively. I think Prince has always been perfectly diplomatic about the whole situation.
  14. Parra is only even mentioned in the very last paragraph: "Parra bounced back from the worst outing of his career (10 runs in 5 1/3 innings in Atlanta) with six strong innings, allowing four hits and two runs." That was positive.... I think?
  15. Yeh, despite not doing as well this year as last, McGehee has done nothing but increase his value this year. He still doesn't project to be any kind of star but he has value.
  16. Gomez batting 6th makes me sad.
  17. "I would put my life savings on Hart not having anywhere near these numbers at the 2011 deadline, granted, he seems like a guy that will turn it on as hard as possible in a contract year." Even if the Brewers trade Hart right now no team would expect him to continue what he's been doing. They are going to make some kind of projection for his expected performance, which is going to fall somewhere between his current numbers and his career numbers. Using Hart's updated ZiPS projection: Current: .290 / .348 / .562 Projection: .274 / .333 / .493 Career: .276 / .329 / .483 The way I see it, the notion of selling high is based mostly on the falacy that teams pay proportional to a player's current production. The Brewers could trade Hart today but if he continues to beat his 2010 season projection, the Brewers would have actually sold low.
  18. WPA is probably what the fans care about most, even if it really doesn't measure talent very well over a single season: http://www.fangraphs.com/...;season=2010&month=0 Hart, McGehee and Weeks.
  19. And after that silliness, Schroeder comments about how great he goes back on balls. Sure, if you you are only allowed to walk while going back, he's the best at it.
  20. You can also buy the MLB Live app for many smartphones for $10/year and listen to all the games.
  21. "The Brewers just need to figure out if they need to deal him (because he won't improve) or if they have to just let him keep starting. I'd vote to let him keep starting." I agree. One of the only good things about not being in contention is that you have the luxury of giving extended looks at players you otherwise wouldn't/couldn't. The Brewers need to take advantage of it.
  22. Since June 15th w/RISP (estimate): 24 AB: .251/.454/.375 Anyone know where to get a double split?
  23. I put Prince 3rd, b/c he's not likely to resign and you can't expect any players/picks you receive in return to outperform Braun or Gallardo. The idea is that it's supposed to represent the net value of the player: Value of projected performance - salary + compensation Fielder has very little net value beyond what his compensation represents. His cheap years are well behind him. He should be much lower on this list, IMO.
  24. I don't follow your logic. Whatever the Brewer's chances of making the playoffs were before the season started, they are now over easily 10 times less. The Brewers would have to finish 45-28 just to get to 85 wins and that STILL would almost certainly not be enough to make the playoffs! I won't argue with anyone over what constitutes "still having a shot" but I hope we can all at least argree that the odds are something like "once every century." One thing I seem to notice is that fans tend to not appreciate how much more difficult it is to catch two teams, as opposed one. We focus on "games back" but it is just a horrible proxy for "odds of winning the division". With the Brewers being 8.5 back to the Reds and 7.5 games back to St Louis, that's comparable to being something like being 13+ games behind one team. Remember, you don't add together the odds of the Reds and Cards falling apart, you mutiply them together. Odds of concurrent events occuring can get nnnnnasty.
