  1. I find it kind of contrived and purposely misleading, myself. There were many times that they could have scored less runs and still have won, so had the offense performed worse overall, this stat would actually improve. Don't get me wrong, it's a morbidly interesting stat but it's not very informative. If you want to objectively capture how bad the pitching and defense has been, just look at runs against. Yuck!
  2. This team is not nearly as bad as some of the teams from the last decade. They are certainly playing as bad right now, though. I'm pretty apathetic right now but I will continue to watch.
  3. I am so sick of all our left handed batters having to face lefties late in the game. Can we PLEASE fix the 25 man roster?
  4. If Macha is going to sac bunt in the first, maybe he should just bat the pitcher second. Giving away an out there makes no sense, statistically. As for Weeks, every player is going to go in many hitting slumps over a full season. Is there some other reason why people think it's obvious he needs a day off?
  5. Ya that's not a gross over exaggeration or anything... what comes next? A sarcastic post about how too many people whine about a soft tossing control pitcher working over the crew? That's only been in every other game thread all year... See, I can cleverly make over exaggerations too! There were plenty of people that didn't want Davis signed, a few that didn't want Hoffman resigned or Hawkins signed, but now everyone is unnecessarily piling on... right. I have no problem with anyone thinking Hoffman wasn't worth the money. I'm not a big fan of paying relievers big money in general. Davis is getting paid peanuts, so it's hard for me to care, either way.
  6. If a manager follows convention, it insulates him from criticism. Until their jobs can't be terminated by populist rage, I don't blame them.
  7. I'm guessing you are a believer in the results being all that matters.Shouldn't they be? Who's going to sit around at the end of the season and say "Well, we're 74 -88, but it was a lot of bad luck!" At some point, the results have to outweigh everything else. Sure, DD and Hoffman have had horrible luck. I agree that the useful metrics would indicate that they haven't pitched as poorly as the numbers seem to show on the surface. But the end result is.......they're 15-24 and sliding. The season's a quarter of the way over. Is it over for them? No, but they're in a pretty deep hole at this point. Baseball, as with any business, is results oriented. As it should be. The stats are great predictive tools, but being able to predict something, and seeing it happen are two different things. I don't care if DD has a 4.5-ish FIP at the end of the season if he has a 6 ERA and a 7-14 record, the results say he had a bad season. An unlucky season, but I'm less concerned *at this moment* about what the peripherals suggest DD *should* do based on what he's actually doing. Fans have the luxury of only caring about what has already happened. The powers that be have to estimate who are the best players available at any given moment throughout the entire season. Sometimes the results perfectly reflect that, sometimes they sort of do and sometimes they don't at all.
  8. Just like Tom wakes up everyday, telling himself what a great writer he is, Hoffman still thinks he's a good closer. It's human nature to not give up on yourself. Most of the time, it's a quality that people admire in a professional athlete.
  9. It's so funny because there are MANY baseball fans that claim every player is done and should be DFA's if they struggle for a week. When, inevitably, they are right once in awhile, they act like they hold the key to performance analysis. Meanwhile, if they were in charge of the baseball team, there would be 5 players left on the 25 man roster, since they showed everyone else the door by June.
  10. Don't worry, you are not alone. I'm guessing you are a believer in the results being all that matters.
  11. I'm 1-7, with 7 losses in a row. I saw about 45 min of the April 7th win, although they were losing bad when I had to leave. I'm sure there is much worse out there... share your misery!
  12. They don't really have any good options to upgrade the offense with, so they better at least upgrade the defense. Prince DHing or counsell playing 2B? None of the options are very exciting. And I assume the Yo suggestion was a joke?
  13. If I misunderstood Monty, I apologize. I just think that even the title of this thread (which I presume you edited) is somewhat misleading. Hart has had more starts against RH starters than lefties, so he's barely barely being platooned. Am I being overly defensive? Probably. I can just see, however, all the "he's done!" commentors pointing to his supposed platoon role as the only reason he's having even modest success. I don't think that would be fair.
  14. If you are complaining about Gerut's defense, you must think Edmonds should be a DH. As soon as Gomez is back, Gerut willll be back to being the 4th or 5th OFer. I don't see Melvin making a move anytime soon. He obviously has a higher opinion of Gerut than the original poster does.
  15. Mostly against lefties? 62% of his PA have come against righties. That's less than average for an everyday starter but it's a pretty soft platoon. It would have taken you 30 seconds to look that up, BTW.
  16. I think we should go ahead and just call for the firing of whomever replaces Macha as well.
  17. We all like nice and tidy explanations but there are many reasons why the Brewers have done so much better on the road than at home. Offensively, it's the whole team: Home: .743 OPS, 4.41 runs/game Away: .850, 6.42 runs/game Are you suggesting that Weeks' poor offensive showinng has caused other batters to perform poorly as well? And what about this: Home: 5.98 ERA Away: 4.41 ERA
  18. Braun doesn't seem to be a particularly good defender in LF, so it would be surprising if he would have developed into a better defender at a harder position. I
  19. Hart's CHONE Projection: .271 / .333 / .456 / .789 Hart, May 16th: .258 / .346 / .462 / .808 To be fair, he's been platooned a little, so that has helped him somewhat. Still, he's he's slightly beating his projected offensive performance, which completely ignores spring training. He might not be worth what he's getting paid but he still has value and will be in the league for awhile, most likely. Whatever scout told Bill Micheals that Hart was "done" (based off what he was doing in spring training) should be fired. And Dye is STILL asking for more money than he's worth.
  20. Other than pitching and defense, this team is pretty good. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif
  21. Edmonds would have never gotten within 15 feet of that gaper. he would have just turned around and started jogging to the warning track.
  22. Are you serious? That is incredibly shortsighted. There are 162 games in the year. Escobar!
  23. When your ace pitcher is pitching in game 7 of the World Series, you got to ride him as long as you can. O... wait.
