  1. Provided no one is traded, Gamel's next extended stint at playing time at the big league level will likely be in spring training. It is likely he will be a September call-up, but it's unlikely McGehee will be benched more than once per week to give Gamel a start at 3B as was mentioned. Depending on what the Brewers see out of him the rest of this year and what they do in the off-season, he could either be a large factor (e.g.: A position opens up for him, Prince is traded, etc.) or a minimal factor (e.g.: He's still blocked at 3B, possibly flipped to improve pitching, etc.) in 2011.
  2. I wouldn't put it past Edmonds to threaten immediate retirement if the Brewers tried to trade him, in all essence negating any attempts to trade him.
  3. Considering the state of Edmonds' Achilles and his resistance to go on the DL, a contending AL team in need of a DH would be a great fit. That said, it doesn't look like Melvin is motivated to move Edmonds. At this point with a month until rosters expand he won't hold the roster too hostage if he can't play in the field much, provided that Hart proves to be okay (and that Melvin isn't motivated to move him, either). The return for Edmonds would probably be poor anyway, and having him on the bench is a better alternative than having Gomez or Cain rot in the bench for a month while Joe Inglett takes a lion's share of the playing time and pinch hit opportunities.
  4. He and CC would both be wearing pinstripes by now. It's a shame he hasn't been able to stay healthy since the talent is obviously there.
  5. The highlight of Phillips' home run is now on mlb.com. That was a ridiculous shot.
  6. The bullpen has been gassed, and Hawkins is fresh. The unfortunate part is that Macha will probably go to him so often his arm will be toast in a few weeks again, anyway. I'm guessing they made the decision now since there's an off day and there is no reason to have Carlos travel with the team if he's going to AAA. This move appears to put the 40-man back to a full 40, but with Estrada and Zaun on the 15 day DL, it would be easy enough to transfer either of those guys to the 60-day if needed.
  7. McCalvy just tweeted that the Brewers optioned RHP Carlos Villanueva to Triple-A to make room for LaTroy Hawkins. I'm guessing this will be effective Friday, but he didn't specify. edit: Looks like crewcrazy beat me to it. If Hawkins can pitch like he did earlier in the year, it would help. It has been a weird season for Villa. At least it took until the end of July for him to be the odd man out. Coming out of ST it was basically a foregone conclusion he'd be going to AAA, but at the last minute someone got injured, keeping him on the roster. Then he became the interim closer, lost the job to Axford, and the rest is history.
  8. I'm disappointed I missed Joe Inglett pitching. I fell asleep when BA and Rock were comparing and contrasting Prince's beard to a cameraman's beard. The highlights are pretty amusing, though.
  9. Rickie Weeks is locked in! Stay healthy Rickie, stay healthy!
  10. That's a perfect spot to burn Edmonds, since he can't play in the field anyway. If he reaches base pinch run with Hart. Yeah, you burn two guys, but you've burned the guys who can't play defense.
  11. When Randy Wolf has to bat with runners on base, you know it is time for someone to hit the DL.
  12. Go Diego Go! Edmonds is smoking hot with HR's right now.
  13. Casey quelled Hells Bells Trevor Time did not exist Hoffman ensures sweep It was a good game out at the ballpark today. I was slightly disappointed not to hear Hells Bells, but I'll take what I can get, and a win is a win!
  14. Your haiku senor Shall inspire epic beard Bush To bust out the brooms The lineups: Brewers 2B Rickie Weeks SS Alcides Escobar LF Ryan Braun 1B Prince Fielder 3B Casey McGehee C Jonathan Lucroy CF Carlos Gomez RF Joe Inglett RHP Dave Bush Nationals CF Nyjer Morgan 3B Willie Harris LF Josh Willingham 1B Adam Dunn RF Roger Beradina C Ivan Rodriguez 2B Adam Kennedy SS Ian Desmond LHP Ross Detwiler
  15. This made me chuckle, lol. I'm sure if worst came to worst Hart could pinch-run, with a strict ban on sliding. They could always pinch-run Wolf too, he knows his way around the bases. A cool front blew through last night, it's going to be a great day for baseball!
  16. I'll be there, continuing to try and reverse my Bush luck (1-4). A part of me wants to be greedy and hope for a save situation to see if Macha will unleash Trevor Time. Not because Ax blew the save Saturday, but because he's pitched 3 days in a row and has thrown 19, 10, and 19 pitches in those games. That said, I'll take any way they can get the job done.
  17. Hearing Uecker call that RBI double brings me joy. Welcome back, Bob! Hooray Lucroy, hooray lead!
  18. I want to say something positive about Manny, but I'm at the point where I'm apathetic, at best. Maybe this is the start he can reel me back in.
  19. It was a warm night at the park, but a good one. I improved to 9-8 on the year, 4-0 in Narveson starts. When the 'crew went down early, Hart went down with an injury, and it seemed like the offense was sleepwalking it felt like it was going to be a long night. Narveson's broken-bat RBI is really what woke everyone up. I found it interesting Macha had Villanueva and Capuano warming behind Loe in the 8th instead of just getting Axford up. Maybe he's being cautious about crushing people's arms after Hawkins, Estrada, and now Braddock have seen a precipitous drop in their velocity because Macha used them every day/multiple innings for an extended period. Capuano was probably up for Harris, but if it gets to Pudge I'd have been surprised to see Villanueva come in instead of Axford. The tremendous night scenery of Miller Park was out in full effect, including the moon which was hanging out above the foul pole in right field. http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o254/gjenkins05/Pics/100_2034.jpghttp://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o254/gjenkins05/Pics/100_1962.jpg
  20. Inglett still has the beard, it is just not as epic as Kottaras'.
  21. Cory and Davey are pretty certain the Pirates are now taking pity on the Brewers, not sending the runner from third last inning there when he probably could have scored. In regards to 10+ runs in a game, Haudricourt tweeted no team had starting pitchers allow at least 10 runs three times in a four-game stretch since the St. Louis Browns from July 5-9, 1937.
  22. Wolf's pitching has Davey flummoxed more than usual. All he could muster was "he's throwing it right over the plate." Also, hooray Cain sighting!
  23. Well, with this turn through the rotation we're making it well known buying is not the most prudent option. It seems like the pitchers are having a "who can pitch worst contest." No Brewers fan wins that one http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif.
  24. The Pirates were up at the time and had a limited bench due to the fact McCutchen is unable to field or hit due to a shoulder injury. There were two outs with no men on base, so the Pirates figured why burn a position player (especially one who likely won't hit one out) when they can just throw a pitcher out there who might get a hit (Duke) instead of one who in all likelihood will not (Carrasco). It wasn't as crazy as it sounds. Duke for his career is a .178 hitter, so it's not like he's Ben Sheets up there.
