  1. These contracts that are over $100 million don't usually work out for one reason or another for the teams. For the players it always works out for because the contract is guaranteed. A team like Milwaukee needs to lock up their players for long term before they get to the point of sniffing FA otherwise there's a good chance they'll take off for more money. Part of the risk the smaller market teams need to take. There was a good chance that the Braun contract wasn't gonna work out for the Brewers for any number of reasons at some point, unfortunately that point came before the extension even kicked in. I still thought it was a good idea. And at least it was on a position player, not a pitcher. I'm not writing off Braun yet. He does look better at the plate this year than just about anytime last year. But it's understandable that people are antsy of his production because of his salary.
  2. Well, Centeno was batting .192 in the minors. He'll fit right in.
  3. I think Mark A is part of the problem. I don't think all of these moves the Brewers have made are DM's decisions. Some of my buddies have touted that the payroll is the highest it's ever been. So what. That still puts us 20th in the league. Unless MA is willing to sink $50-60 million more onto the payroll each year, this going for it every year thing will not work in Milwaukee. They just aren't built for it. Milwaukee is a small market with nothing valuable in the minors coming up for at least another 2-3 years and an aging team. The rebuilding should have started last year so that they could hopefully have a realistic chance of contending in 2018-2019. Last year the April start gave everyone hope. Hindsight is 20/20, but it was probably the worst thing that could have happened for the future of this team. With all that said, I wouldn't trade anything for the ride the team has taken us on the last 8 years and I'll still try and watch them every game. Just sucks they are in this position. Feels like 2002 all over again right now.
  4. http://www.jsonline.com/newswatch/277217622.html I won't be at the game tonight, but hope that at some point they show Bud on the big screen and he gets a standing ovation. Say what you want about Bud Selig when he owned the Brewers and the work he's done as commissioner, but the fact is that he brought baseball back to Milwaukee. I wasn't born until 1978, so I can't even imagine a world without the Brewers close to home. The Brewers, County Stadium, the fight for Miller Park, post-Selig having Miller Park, playoff races and post-season races, etc., have given me countless memories that I'll never forget. It would have never happened without Selig bringing the Brewers to Milwaukee. I don't usually post anything like this, but baseball has been a huge part of my life and without the Brewers that wouldn't have happened, so for that I'm thankful. Thank you Bud.
  5. It's been a fun ride. Who thought they'd be in first place for just about the whole season. It's better than the alternative of A LOT of past Brewer seasons. Hopefully they can take at least 2 of the next 3 against the Cards and get back on track. Let's remember, as of right now, they are still in the playoffs.
  6. I like Segura. Good guy. But starting to give Herrera more starts at SS is the right move. I told that to my buddy about 3 weeks ago and he agreed. It just seems as though he's not mentally there right now. I hope he can somehow regroup this winter and come back next year stronger.
  7. Obviously Henderson's issues started before the season, but does anyone think we can partly attribute Thornburg's issue to overuse since they were basically down a man in the bullpen because of keeping Wang?
  8. It's now time to go to bed. If I keep watching and they lose, I'll be too mad to sleep.
  9. Counsell is in the booth with BA Thought they may have said Gord Ash on the radio broadcast, not positive. It is Gord Ash.
  10. I know this sounds bad, but I'd rather see Herrera up there getting some PA's right now. I actually said this to my buddy a couple weeks ago and he agreed. At this point, what are you losing if you start platooning at SS?? A little defense, but you'll probably make it up with a better bat.
  11. How long have you been sitting on this valuable information, good sir? I just figured Davey Nelson had logged in.
  12. Davey. Is. Terrible. It really is amazing that he still keeps his job in broadcasting. I thought they would have learned this when he was subbing a few years back for Uecker.
  13. His wife had their third kid on I-43. http://espn.go.com/blog/playbook/fandom/post/_/id/13531/a-j-ellis I believe that I've read in the past that he lives in Oak Creek in the off-season he trains at Hitters Baseball Academy here in Racine.
  14. Guys won't be on the ballot as long anymore. According to this article, McGwire only has 2 years of eligibility left to make it and the other guys only have 8. viewtopic.php?f=63&t=31685
  15. 2x in 2006 St. Louis lost 8 games in a row and they still won the World Series. Being so many games above .500 is great because when you go on these types of skids you're still sitting okay. At least it's happening now and not in September. Still plenty of time to recover. Plus, what are the chances that once they get this turned around(hopefully soon), that it'd happen again this season. The odds say that they'd be in for a bad stretch, maybe not to this extreme, but that there would be a stretch of bad ball. Better to get it over with now.
  16. Unfortunately, a not-so-great season for Segura in baseball just took a backseat to life. Losing a child might be the toughest thing mentally anyone could go through. It'll be tough for him to bounce back this season. Maybe there was something there for a while and mentally he hasn't been into it this season and and that may be a reason he has struggled?
  17. I think people are waiting for the bottom to fall out on this team. They weren't suppose to finish in the Top 3 in the Central according to all the "experts" so nobody wants to go all in on them yet. If they get to the All-Star break in good shape, I think you'll see the excitement ramp up pretty good.
  18. Watching that ball I know it was in front of the foul pole. However, before I even came on here to see all the comments, I thought it went off the foul pole glancing off the side of it. I thought on the replays you could see it slightly change angles on the way it was flying.
