  1. Gomez basically calling out Braun saying it was his fault for not scoring. This has all the makings of a good/great season going south. I've always liked Gomez, but I really hope his rocketing popularity isn't putting him the ranks of a being a diva/douche bag. Gomez should have never been going and you never make the 3rd out at 3rd base. I think they teach that in Little League. I understand he wants to be aggressive, but he needs to be smart as well. From Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel: Miami - Beyond letting a winless pitcher beat them in a frustrating 2-1 loss to Miami on Saturday, the Brewers in essence forfeited a run in the sixth inning with bad base running. With Ryan Braun on second base and Carlos Gomez on first and two down, Mark Reynolds singled to left field for what should have been an easy run batted in. With Braun headed home, Gomez aggressively tried to take third and was thrown out by leftfielder Christian Yelich. Because Gomez was tagged out before Braun got to the plate, the run was disallowed, which would come back to haunt the Brewers later. Both runners are playing at less than 100% physically, Gomez with a bad back and Braun with oblique tightness. Roenicke said he did not see Braun slow down and indicated Gomez should have held second. “Obviously, it’s a shorter throw for the outfielder to get it to third with the timing of whether he’d throw it to home, which makes it tough,” said manager Ron Roenicke. “When you’re on first, if you think there’s a chance (to be thrown out), you need to pull up. “With the way (Gomez) is running now, it’s not like he normally is. You still have the same instincts but because of the way he’s running now, things change.” Gomez, however, said he was running better than in previous days and expressed surprise that Braun didn’t score before the out at third. “I’m not even running 100% and I make it there before him,” said Gomez. “If you look at the replay, you’re going to find some answers to this. I run the bases like I do every time. I think he’s supposed to score. “I think it’s a good play (by Yelich) because I saw him flat-footed and put his head down and hesitated. That’s a tough throw because most of the time that throw hit the runner. That’s why I make the decision to go to third. That’s how you make things happen. They got me this time. If it happened again, I’d go again.”
  2. If the Brewers are under .500 or even at .500, I don't think it's an issue to send another guy down and keep Wang. However, The Crew is 20-8, in 1st place, and the bullpen has been absolutely rock solid AND is going to be severely overworked come July if they continue going basically with a 6 man bullpen and keep playing these tight games. The bullpen is a big reason they are 20-8 and I would hate to see what could be a great season go south late in the season because all of the relievers have 70+ appearances and are worn down. It would nice to have a couple 7 or 8 run games(winning or losing for that matter) where Wang could be used to spell the guys a bit. These constant tight games are really going to hurt the bullpen in the long run if they don't get a fresh arm. I'm more for playing for this year when it looks like they have a legitimate chance to make a run rather than holding onto a guy for what he might be able to do in 2-4 years
  3. TH has some notes about this in his Sunday column: http://www.jsonline.com/sports/brewers/tommy-john-surgeries-run-rampant-in-baseball-b99255887z1-256849651.html
  4. I don't understand the waiting for "Weeks to catch fire" rhetoric. Weeks hasn't caught fire in a long time. "As Weeks goes is the way the Brewers go" was the old mantra and it was true 3-4 years ago. However, as time has gone on Weeks can't hit and his fielding is average, and has lost 2 or 3 steps speedwise. The organization has shown that they are willing to cut ties with a player regardless of salary and I believe that is what will happen eventually with Weeks. It's too bad because I think Weeks has been a great teammate and a great person in the community. Basically everything you want out of a ballplayer, just skills have eroded quickly. Championship teams don't have this many holes on a roster. I don't think anyone realistically expected the Brewers to contend for a WS this year, but it's a great thought and I really hope they have a magical run. However, holes at 1b, questions at 2b, SS struggling, LF was a gamble to begin with, and you're basically short a man in the bullpen because of Wang, it's gonna be pretty tough. I'm as big a Brewer fan as anyone, but I just can't see them hanging around till the very end unless at least 2 of the 5 question marks gets answered before July. With that said, the SP I think is very strong. Once they signed Garza, I thought the wild card on whether this team could contend or not was Peralta. If he's even close to what they think they have in him, they will be there in September. They aren't going to have those 5-6 game losing streaks that can be killers. 5-6 guys in the bullpen are very good. The pitching could very well carry this team to the promised land.
  5. In light of the developments with the Bucks and the BMO, was just curious as to what everyone thought the longevity or usefullness of Miller Park will be? The BC was opened in 1988, and here we are just 25 years later and it's outdated to the point that they need a completely new arena. Now, I understand the economics of sports has changed drastically in the last 25 years to the point that you need arenas to bring in tons of cash by itself with all the amenities that can be offered, but how long can Miller Park last before people start saying that it's time to think of replacing it? When thining about it, IMO I think by the time Miller Park was being built it was realized that the stadium was an entertainment venue, not just a place to play baseball, ala County Stadium and I think they've done a fantastic job with MP. But to answer my own question, I'm thinking around 2025-2030 we'll start hearing rumblings.
  6. Had to work yesterday so I'm pretty pumped up to sit down and watch a game tonight.
  7. Is this going to be one of the issues that causes a stoppage in 2016? Are the owners going to push for being able to restructure or void contracts if a player is caught using PED's? I would think that the players would take a hit if they don't agree to something like that when this comes up in a couple years.
  8. I think as long as RR says that KRod is the closer and stays the closer, there's not a controversy. If he starts going back and forth, then I think there's a problem.
  9. IIRC, they used to draw great back in the early to late 90's when they were going through their Division Winning streak, but it got to the point that people got bored with them winning on the back half of that streak? They didn't get much in '91, but from '92-'00, they were averaging close to or well over 40,000. After 2000 though, they were still winning division titles up through 2005 and the fans just weren't showing up. They're always around 30,000 a game now. It's kinda been the status quo ever since.
  10. Found this on Deadspin. Pretty interesting stuff. http://deadspin.com/all-homegrown-mlb-teams-1110511527
  11. No way MLB was going to suspend the players a week or 2 before the ASG. It's the same reason teams aren't allowed to really make any announcements during the WS. MLB wants the focus to be on the event, not a bunch of other things.
  12. If MLB is out to get Braun more than others, why should Braun talk to them and give them anything that they can distort or embellish to get the suspension they didn't get the first time? All the players will stay quiet, including ARod who hasn't talked to MLB yet. And I'm sure it's not so much that they aren't cooperating, but following advice by their legal teams-their very pricey and expensive legal teams-to not tell MLB anything.
  13. MLB is trying to win the public opinion war against these guys. And they are doing a good job of it. By going after Braun, they're just trying to prove that they'll go after anyone no matter how big of star they are. And the thing is, they'll win that PR war. People are always going to associate Brand and PED's, no matter what. Even in MLB never even comes up with hard evidence on Braun. It's already pretty much a guarantee that Braun will not be a 1st, 2nd, or probably even 3rd ballot HOF'er.
  14. Baseball-reference has had him(and still does) listed as not becoming a FA until 2018. It sounds as if that is now wrong, but I'm sure a lot of people may get their info from there hence a lot of people thinking he was under control for a lot longer than thru 2014.
  15. Fiers is out for the year. Narveson and Heckathorn aren't even on the 40-man roster at this point and I correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the Brewers are at 40 right now so it would necessitate getting rid of someone.
  16. Per JSOnline http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/213614001.html
  17. Scooter going back to Nashville.
  18. To me, it just sucks because if he's never suspended for anything, in 20 years when he's up for his first HOF ballot, there are gonna be guys that don't vote for him based purely on a public opinion war by MLB against Braun. He'll end up being another one of these guys that gets less than 50% of the vote when there's been nothing against him. Now before people attack for me saying nothing against him, let me preface that by saying we may never know what happened in that first incident, whether he took something or not. His lawyers chose to take the route that they thought had the best chance of getting him off-chain of custody. Simply denying he didn't take anything may not have had the best odds of beating the system. Now with all that said, do I think Braun took something? Based on everything I've heard, it's more than 50% he did. But the fact is, he didn't get suspended. Personally, I'm so darn tired of hearing all of it, I say dedicate a new wing to the HOF for after 1995 players and let guys take all the supplements they want. It's their body, let them suffer later in life with the after effects. Just entertain me and let Braun continue to hit clutch HR's that win division titles.
  19. I really believe MLB knows they don't have much on Braun. They are holding a grudge and pissed off that he beat the system the first time. Just by linking Braun to the clinic, they are already waging a public opinion battle against him. Here in WI, we will pay attention and if they come up with nothing, we will know Braun is innocent and got screwed. However, in the national realm, just having his named linked makes him guilty until proven innocent, but by the time he's proven innocent, people aren't paying attention anymore and just think of him as guilty by association.
  20. Considering his past history, I'm not sure why Gorzellany wasn't considered to be one of the spot starters earlier in the year. I know they needed to stretch him out more, but that could have been done a while ago.
  21. I think if RR starts answering questions about it, it's going to be even more of a distraction. I'm thinking he's trying to say the least amount possible so that the media doesn't start feeding off of what he says. I'm sure RR is privy to what really went on for the first test to be positive and I'm sure he probably knows what exactly is going on now. He opens his mouth now and leads on that he may know what exactly is happening or happend, and all of a sudden the media goes after him along with MLB compelling him to "testify" as to what he knows.
