  1. I saw some posts around here mentioning how nice he'd be to have as opposed to Estrada, but that was mostly wishful thinking. I just can't believe that someone would be willing to give Posada that much money, especially since he's destined to be a DH after another year or two.
  2. According to the NY Daily News, the Yankees are getting ready to offer Jorge Posada 3 years, $40 million: http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/yankees/2007/10/23/2007-10-23_yankees_likely_to_offer_jorge_posada_40_-2.html If that's not crazy enough, it looks like Posada thinks he can get even more on the open market. It should be noted that the Yanks' offer of 3/$40 would make him the highest paid catcher in Major League Baseball. And Posada would want even more. Yikes...scratch him off the list.
  3. The thing about Duncan, though is that he's Jenkins-esque against LHP: vs. RHP: .271/.371/.525vs. LHP: .213/.289/.313 I think given Duncan's history of struggling to hit lefties, La Russa made the right decision there. It was just unfortunate for La Russa that he didn't have a suitable platoon-mate for Duncan on the roster.
  4. Is it bad that I read that post using Dane Cook's voice in my head? "There's only one...OCTOOOWBER!"
  5. Dice-K would start for the Red Sox, while the Indians would probably start Jake Westbrook. Talking to the Red Sox fans I know, they had next to no worries of getting to Game 7 with Beckett throwing Game 5 and Schilling throwing tonight in Game 6 -- it was Game 7 with Dice-K on the mound that they were worried about. It seems like he hit a wall late in the season and hasn't really been anything special lately.
  6. I thought this was pretty good: http://mvn.com/mlb-cubs/2007/10/14/2008-cincinatti-reds-year-in-review/ It's from a Cubs blog, so there's some extra feeling about Baker behind all of this. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif I'd pick and choose the best lines, but they're all pretty good.
  7. What's the over/under on how long it takes Dusty to make his first "Adam Dunn just clogs the bases for Norris Hopper" quote?
  8. B.J. Upton had a pretty good year offensively, but his defense is horrible. He makes Rickie Weeks look like Robby Alomar. http://static.yuku.com//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/laugh.gif Jamie Shields did have an amazing year, though, but Kazmir will always get more attention from the national media because he's the "One that Got Away" from the Mets. I had both on my fantasy team this year and had a pretty killer pitching staff (along with Verlander, Wainwright, and a half year of Sheets). Shields' K/BB rate is Sheets-like. Joakim Soria was a nice surprise, too, out of Kansas City's bullpen. He started the year as their closer while Dotel was on the DL and took the role over again once Dotel was traded, and put up solid numbers for a rookie.
  9. But Clemens motivated the Yankees to play better by merely being present in the clubhouse! Who cares if he's stunk all year! He's a *leader* in that clubhouse!
  10. Steinbrenner will either hire Girardi out of the booth or just give the job to Don Mattingly, who managed a handful of games this year when Torre was suspended. I think King George would figure out quickly that neither are as good as Torre at stroking the egos in the Yankee clubhouse.
  11. So far in the Cleveland series: Derek Jeter is 1-8. Robinson Cano is 1-7. Johnny Damon is 1-9. Jorge Posada is 0-7. Hideki Matsui is 0-7. But it's all Alex Rodriguez's fault, right? With his salary, he should motivate his teammates to do better against two of the AL's Cy Young candidates! I just love how everyone conveniently forgets that he had a monster ALDS in 2004 against Minnesota before the Yankees' infamous ALCS collapse that year. He's had a bad stretch of 22 games following a monster stretch of 15 games. It's just a shame that the law of averages is coming back to him while he's playing in New York.
  12. I think you can point to Alfonso Soriano finally realizing he's Alfonso Soriano at the start of September just as much as you can point to Jacque Jones for the Cubs winning the division. If Soriano didn't go crazy and hit 14 HR in September, I don't think the Cubs win the NL Central, but maybe that's just me.
  13. Red Sox over Angels, 3-2 Indians over Yankees, 3-2 Phillies over Rockies, 3-1 Diamondbacks over Cubs, 3-1 Red Sox over Indians, 4-2 Phillies over Diamondbacks, 4-1 Red Sox over Philles, 4-2 Just for kicks, I'll predict that J.D. Drew comes through with a World Series-winning walkoff single and all of New England acts like they didn't hate Drew all along. Such an event would also cause Phillies fans to despise Drew even more than they already do, which was previously thought to be impossible.
  14. Very cool. I've been wanting the Brewers to play the Red Sox for awhile now...definitely beats having to watch multiple Brewers/Royals games. The O's series should be fun, too, and good for some replays of Nieves' no-hitter and the AL East-clinching series to finish 1982. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  15. Just judging from the Texas series this year, I vote for never ever having to play the AL West in Interleague Play again. Unless they're nice enough to come to Miller Park. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  16. Both Juan Nieves AND Teddy Higuera had no-hitters? http://static.yuku.com//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/tongue.gif Whoops. It was late and I'm a tired college student. Cut a guy some slack. http://static.yuku.com//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/laugh.gif
  17. Who would you have hit over Rivera. Miller, Rottino? To me, they're pretty much all the same guy. Who else was available? True, most of the viable pinch hit options were already used. It just stunk seeing Mike Rivera stepping into a situation like that. Edit: CoCo pitching with dollar signs in his eyes. http://static.yuku.com//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/laugh.gif Nice job on the 1-2-3 inning, Coco. Now let's win this stupid game.
  18. Mike Rivera stinks. I would've rather had someone pinch hit there, but oh well. Get them in extras.
  19. Seeing Yost pinch hit Tony Gwynn for Bill Hall is probably a good indicator in Neddy's confidence in Hall..yikes. Edit: Holy crap Gwynn didn't get out! It's a September miracle! Tie game...there's still hope.
  20. I can't say I'd be disappointed to see Craig go, but if he does decide to call it quits, the Brewers would be losing one of their few quality defensive gloves. Braun K's with the tying run on 2nd...bummer. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif Hopefully he can cut the K's down next year...that's been one of my few gripes with him this year. If he could learn to foul off those pitches instead of whiffing on them completely, he'd be an even more dangerous hitter.
  21. Any chance at all that Counsell retires after this season? Here's an interesting note about today's game...so far (bottom of the 8th), the only two Brewers hits have come from Weeks (hitting .235 for the year) and Jenkins (hitting .257).
  22. Rickie's giving me a lot of reason to be optimistic about 2008. If he can stay healthy for a whole year, he's going to be extremely fun to watch next year.
  23. Looks like Bush is pitching well this afternoon, which is good to see. Unfortunately, I'm forced to follow this one on GameDay, since I'm stuck with Philly/Washington on FOX here. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif
  24. Go out and save your job for next year, Dave. Finishing the year above .500 would at least be something to hang our hats on this year.
  25. The young guys found out what it's like to be in a pennant race at a very young age, and will hopefully be better equipped to deal with it again next year.
