  1. Kendall bats. Some things never do change. I wish somebody would ask him WHY! He's a popup machine.
  2. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/a...mp;fext=.jsp&c_id=mlb To be released at 12 pm, according to this press release. The release hints at an interleague game at Cleveland -- can't wait to see who the Brewers play on Opening Day, too.
  3. I was browsing through the posts from late 2007, and I stumbled across this gem: http://forum.brewerfan.net/viewtopic.php?t=8606 It's the "Should Ned Stay or Go" poll from August-October 2007. Very interesting reading, considering the current state of affairs.
  4. With New York's loss last night, the Brewers playoff odds rose 5-6%, according to BP. The Svuem regime is already off to a good start. Keep it going!
  5. Looks like my foresight is better than your hindsight. This team would not be in their current position without CC Sabathia. The team has won 12/13 of his starts ... how many starts would they have won with McClung or Greg Maddux? He took stress off of our atrocious bullpen and his contributions with the bat are relevant, too. During this current stretch, the team has gone 1-11 in the non-Sabathia starts. We don't sniff the playoffs without Sabathia. Once you're into the playoffs, it's a matter of a few coinflips. He and Sheets have the potential to be the top 1-2 punch in the NL playoffs. A World Series berth is still a possibility. It's not over yet. IF we get there, CC Sabathia is the guy that will have put us over the top. The Brewers have flaws, but it makes more sense to make a trade for an outstanding player who very well may give us a World Series, rather than blowing the whole thing up because we have so many flaws. LaPorta is still a prospect. The Sabathia trade is one of the best things the Brewers have ever done.
  6. They have three more against Washington, three against Atlanta, and four against a Cubs team who will likely be playing for nothing (maybe except HFA). The three games against Florida will present a challenge, though. I think the Brewers, Mets, and Phillies have pretty similar schedules down the stretch -- it will come down to who plays the best. However, I do believe the NYM bullpen could be the "x-factor."
  7. I don't hate Ned Yost. I have respect for the man. I do get your statement, but I don't agree with it. I'd give him some bit of credit for the turn around, but certainly not a majority. From what we've heard, the players like him, and he played a significant role in the upbringing of the current core. But the lack of talent in the early years masked his deeply flawed managerial decisions. I strongly believe that the added payroll and maturation of the "core" players is the reason why this team is a contender. However, if Yost wasn't the manager, would this team still suck? Doubtful. Yost's role in the turn around was small.
  8. There may be a need to shuffle the rotation in the final week, in the case of a one-game playoff on Sept. 29 or 30. If there's a one-game playoff, Sabathia must pitch -- that precludes a must-win situation on Sept. 28, of course.
  9. He made Milwaukeeans care about baseball again and he made the baseball nation remember that Milwaukee is a great baseball town. Ned Yost, like it or not, is a big part of the turn around of this franchise. And for that he should be thanked. The Brewers improved from 2003-2008 because their personnel improved, and because Mark A. purchased the franchise. If Ned were some kind of savior, there's no way he'd receive the kind of flack he hears from this site. He was at the helm during the 2004 collapse, a team that was 41-34 on July 1. Granted, the team was overachieving, but they won 26 games in the final three months. In 2007, Yost melted down in late Sept. (remember, the Cardinals series conincided with a Florida sweep of the Cubs -- the door was wide open). And, the details are pouring out about the "nature" of the clubhouse these past couple of weeks. Most on this website (heck, almost everybody) believes Yost is a bad manager; according to one at NSBB: "any day is a good day to fire a manager as bad as Yost." The credit for the renaissance goes to Mark A., Jack Z., and to an extent, Melvin.
  10. If we win the pennant, you're going to remember where you were on September 15 when Ned Yost was fired. I was at the Cubs/Astros game this afternoon when I received "the call." I was ecstatic. Everybody on this board was fed up with his atrocious bullpen management, insistence on sticking with Hall v. RHP, Shouse v. LHP, obsession with Jason Kendall. We're not in a position to speculate about Yost's presence in the clubhouse, but those rumors circulating from ESPN (a player's friend commenting on Yost's job status) sounded toxic. I have no clue whether these trends will continue (Dale doesn't inspire much confidence), but I feel a change was necessary based on those rumors. This move won't "spark" this team. It's not going to help them hit homers or help groundballs find holes, but it was time for a change. I know many here have been waiting for this for years. IMO, it should have happened on May 20 or October 1, 2007.
  11. Being an eternal optimist, I'll also note some of best moments from my memory: the opening of Miller Park, the night the new stadium was approved, the 1998 10-game winning streak, Jeromy Burnitz winning the first interleague game at County Stadium 1-0 on a walk-off HR, Bill Hall's heroics in 2004, Ben Sheets' 18-K game, the day the CC Sabathia trade was completed, TGJ's walk-off to doom the Padres, etc... I wish we could talk about playoff memories. I have some cherished memories from the past few seasons, but I'm just heartbroken tonight. I really wanted to see some playoff memories made in 2008.

  13. When Yost returns to Miller Park as manager of the Braves, he's going to hear Sheffield-esque boos. Nobody will be complaining about that.
  14. The first no-hitter in Miller Park history was thrown by a member of the Chicago Cubs. By Carlos freakin Zambrano.
  15. This summer was so much fun. From Memorial Day-Labor Day, this team was a joy to watch. It felt so different; I really thought things were changing. It's too bad that it's been a steep trip downhill since last Monday.
  16. The rest of Philadelphia's schedule is a joke: @ATL @FLA ATL WSH We have to hope that the Cubs can do some damage against the Mets in a week. That's pretty much our only hope, unless we can go on a tear.
  17. The camera keeps panning towards Yost ... he looks helpless and worried. Why did we have to sign Suppan?
  18. I keep seeing flashbacks to August/September 2004. At least back then it didn't matter whether we won or lost. This stretch run is going to cripple the franchise for years. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif I keep thinking ... what if they don't fire Yost?
  19. http://rds.yahoo.com/_ylt=A0WTb_kAmc1IxwQA7xGjzbkF/SIG=12bci3ndt/EXP=1221520000/**http%3A//s.wsj.net/media/tynes_art_257_20080121112215.jpg Just a punch in the gut...

  21. Are you freakin' serious? No Mike Rivera?
  22. Yost's rationale for using Shouse v. Burrell from TH's blog: "I've got a lot of confidence in "Shousie" to get a ground ball and a double play," said Yost. "I thought 'Shousie' could get the job done." Yost said he wanted to get Shouse through the eighth inning and go to Gagne in the ninth if the score was still tied. He already had used Mota for the seventh inning. "I didn't want him to have to finish the inning and send him back out in the ninth," said Yost. "I wanted him to have a clean inning."
  23. Hopefully that's not all we score today! That was a terrible pitch from Blanton.
  24. We have a potential for at least six hours of pure torment today. SOS ... Save Our Season!
