  1. I just hope this transaction doesn't mean that Marcum is going to be out of action too in that Melvin and the staff are seriously concerned about that balky right shoulder as the reason for making this trade. Having Narveson, Estrada, and Mitre as your 3,4, and 5 starters while Greinke is out makes me want to cry...... I wish the World Baseball Classic was this spring so that the season start could be delayed.....
  2. FYI- Some guy on JSONLINE thread about Patrick Egan being sent back to Baltimore stated that McGhee trotted to the cart and took the ride in to get X-Rays. If this is true, it would be better than having to get him at home plate with the cart, etc, which is what I assumed.... Now I don't know if this guy saw this at the game or what.....
  3. It looks like Marco Estrada will be the #5 according to the latest Journal Sentinel Blog post. Roenicke all but named him as the starter on April 6th. Keith
  4. Haudricourt agrees with some members of Brewerfan in his latest tweet: Haudricourt Tom This is the book on Yuniesky Betancourt -- lazy mechanics. The pitcher hits a routine grounder to him and he throws high for an error. Weak. If this was Escobar making a youth mistake it would be better to handle the laziness, but Betancourt isn't exactly young.......
  5. Haudricourt tweeted that Rogers is a candidate to take Greinke's starts even though he still hasn't pitched in a game. I take that as encouraging news for Rogers in that he must be feeling much better as has been documented. By Roenicke making this comment that Rogers is one of the candidates says a lot about where Rogers is in recovery and that he still has time to get built up for starting in early April.
  6. Thanks for the link TLB! That does technically put the Brewers and Reds in the driver's seat unless every Brewer position player pulls an oblique, breaks a pinky, or worse.
  7. Just curious- when do the projection systems redo their numbers to account for the Wainright injury and other season altering events? At the end of Spring Training? No one hasn't come up with a new projection on the NL Central yet, have they?
  8. Projections and the Betancourt issue aside, it sure doesn't help that we have a May- June gauntlet to run in Interleague play whereas the Cards get the Royals six times and the Orioles. It could really come down to that even if the Brewers perform a bit better than the projections statistically. The Cards have room for error, the Brewers probably don't have that luxury.......
  9. Awesome news! We couldn't afford to not do this with Fielder gone at the end of the year. The money being reported seems fair on both sides. Go out and have a monster year Rickie! Good guy too!
  10. We are staying at the Buckminster which is a half mile at most from Fenway. We got a base room with the AAA discount for $149 per night for Friday and Saturday. I also looked at the Howard Johnson too which is right near by Fenway. Good luck.
  11. My wife and I are celebrating our ten year wedding anniversary at Fenway this year. We have already locked in air, hotel, and although the tickets go on sale tomorrow to the general public, we went ahead already and bought tickets for the Friday and Saturday games from a broker who buys from season ticket holders to secure two seats together in the lower bleachers to get around the obstructed view issues. At least out there we will be safe from obstructed views since I don't know much about the park. Always a little leary buying second hand tickets, but to get into Fenway and sit where you want and to be together, you probably have to go that route. I can't wait!
  12. Unrelated to the Garza conversation, but now I wonder if Melvin goes and gets a better SS than what we have? Every win truly counts now! There may be no room for error. We can't start "Batter nine you sucky" can we? Good move for the Cubs, but Greinke alone is better than Garza and we have Marcum on top of that.....
  13. Great signing. Perhaps he was signed as insurance that Hawkins still isn't right yet. Or allows them to keep the inexperienced and "optionable" Kintzler and McClendon off the 25 man roster for another seasoned arm. Good quality depth move.
  14. "EDIT: It does stink that our interleague is NYY, BOS, TB & MIN while the Cards have BAL, TOR, TB & KC and the Reds have BAL, TOR, TB & CLE. That has to be 1-2 relative wins we'll need to overcome." This bothers me too! While a week ago I thought the Brewers would go 0-6 through NY and BOS, I feel they have a better chance now, but that month of June Interleague schedule is ridiculously tough compared to St. Louis and Cincinnati having to play the Royals and Indians twice (respectively) where the Crew has to play Minnesota twice on top of the Yanks, Red Sox, and Tampa. That would seem that we need to really clean up in the Division or against the other weaker teams to overcome this disadvantage......
  15. Mat Gamel says hi! Well in all seriousness, the Brewers tend to be a bit slow on the promotions that are warranted. For quick review, Lorenzo Cain sat in the minors darn near all year while Carlos Gomez got on base at a .286 clip. Zach Braddock should have made the roster out of spring. Chris Narverson should have been the #5 starter from day one instead of Jeff Suppan taking a few turns and then preventing Axford or Braddock from being called up to take Suppan's bullpen spot. Money decisions seem to weigh heavily into any equation. Heck, they signed a bullpen arm in the offseason (Hawkins) before promoting Axford/Braddock/McClendon who all could have been a cheaper alternative. Jake Odorizzi being a stud pitching prospect might well be on the fast track, but for some reason in 2012 when Randy Wolf is struggling in spring training on year three of his contract, the Brewers will still trot him out there (ala Suppan) and keep Jake Odorizzi in AAA and us fans will have new target to "Boo". If a guy can get out major league hitters consistently, especially those type of pitchers that miss bats like Odorizzi, he should be called to the big club when he is "built up" and can throw up to 175 innings per year so he can be part of the rotation thus getting rid of the poorest performer at that time. However, it seems that many times when decisions like this present themselves, the Brewers put "minor league performance" lower on that priority list.
  16. Jody Gerut is now only a trivia question answer replacing Chad Moeller in minds of Brewer fans.....
  17. "and that there is a 3rd mystery team interested as well" Ahhh. The infamous "mystery team." Again, you have to love these guys at this time of the year!!! Prince going to the Tigers does make some sense. Let the two AL Central competitors fight over Prince. Hopefully it nets us more than just Hudson and Viciedo the "Cuban Sandwich." This is just such a sad time though for us Brewer fans. As fans who watched Prince in the minors and then into his stellar career in Milwaukee, it is just amazing how fast time flies that after just 4 1/2 years the Prince of Milwaukee will be gone and this new "era" of success for this organization is at an end with just one playoff berth that was just barely made on the strength of CC's arm. I just hope the next batch of baby Brewers can get us to the promise land helped by a shrewd move or two with Prince and Hart going away via the trade route.
  18. If the Sox writers think that Viciedo should be the centerpiece of any deal with the Brewers just because it would give the Brewers salary relief and would plug our 1B hole after we traded Fielder, they obviously haven't watched the better part of the past two seasons of our stinky rotation. We need young ace-like top end of the rotation pitching that has to be the start of the talks. If the ChiSoxs don't have what Melvin wants with Hudson as their best offer and then adding Viciedo to the deal, if we accept this, the Brewers will be the same team they have been in 2009-2010 which is one of all offense- junk pitching! Not to mention, I am sure that our defense doesn't get any better by adding the "Cuban Sandwich" Viciedo to the left side of our infield. Again, this is not the type of move the Brewers need to make unless they are absolutely convinced this is the best it gets from now and through the winter. Beckham and Hudson, I like much better, but again am concerned our pitching doesn't get a ton better yet.
  19. July 20th- White Sox not in on Fielder- Ken Rosenthal. July 21st- White Sox trying to accelerate talks on Fielder- Ken Rosenthal July 22nd- White Sox trade for Lance Berkman- Ken Rosenthal This guy gets paid to do this? Wow!
  20. I agree. Seriously how can anyone compete with that? What a joke. They will probably resign Lee also and if it goes bad, they will trade for another Lee a year or two from now. Now I seriously can't wait for the Packers' two-a-days........
  21. There is a new rumor on MLBtraderumors.com referencing Peter Gammons talking about a Corey Hart to the Braves for Mike Minor. 1st Round pick from 2009. Advanced arm already in AAA. Thoughts from the Brewerfan.net experts?
  22. Wow after reading this thread I don't feel too bad with my 1-6 record. My 10 Pack looks pretty bleak at this point.
  23. I saw Chris Capuano pitch in 2010 for the Brewers sometime a long, long time ago, in a galaxy, far, far, away.....
  24. They need to save some runs tomorrow, so when I am sitting next to Cubs fans ribbing me about the 4-spot Suppan just surrendered in the first inning, I will have some confidence of a comeback against Dempster!!!
