  1. All because they didn't want to stop the season for a couple of weeks. No reason they couldn't have started it a week earlier and ended it a week later. The NHL has a star problem because most player's personalities are bland and they only play about one-third of a game. Now you have to opportunity to get all of these stars on the same teams, playing against each other and you decline it.
  2. Hot take: Tim Dillard is not funny.
  3. It'd be more understandable if they didn't trade for a worse version of Dickerson that only makes a few million less that led to his DFA.
  4. Not only him but Logan Morrison and probably a couple more guys I can't think of right now that are still free agents. This is just a terrible deal. It's not even like they can get out of it after a couple of years if Hosmer flukes his way to a couple more good seasons and opts out.
  5. Yah there has to be a reason he was DFA’d. Tampa isn’t stupid. They've been pretty stupid since Friedman left.
  6. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't going to use glamazon ***** constantly.
  7. She don't lie, She don't lie, She don't lie
  8. I'm suggesting you leave before I have to get snooty.
  9. This is an underrated post.
  10. Gets a lot of ground balls, decent number of strikeouts on top of that, 26th out of 110 qualified starters the last three years in soft contact percentage, not as good in hard contact at 42nd but tied for 3rd out of 110 qualified starters the last three years in LD% at 17.9% with Keuchel. For a cheap one year deal or one year plus an option or something? You could do a lot worse. If you like Chacin, you'll probably like Garcia as well and you could probably get him for even less than what Chacin got. Maybe like 1/8 with an option for year 2 at $8 million with a couple million buyout or something.
  11. Once again, it's about not wanting to overpay for a couple of 30 year old pitchers who have had injuries and seem to be declining. It's not like everybody is "OMG Woodruff is going to be a #3 starter right away!" It's more like "I'd rather give Woodruff a shot in the rotation over signing Cobb or Lynn to a 4/60 deal.
  12. I know that age catches every professional athlete and Tom Brady is a statue that only has to throw. Cain relies on his speed to be a productive player. So your Brady comparison makes no sense. I'm not even going to get into a ski jumper who literally has to just bend at the knees and fly off a ramp. Again, not at all comparable.
  13. 100% this
  14. Why do we have to take chances? Nobody is forcing us to go out and overpay for a free agent.
  15. Wouldn't this be what it is? Suter starts until Nelson comes back or Burnes is called up. By my count you can get him all the way through the end of June with as few as 11 starts if you wanted to and the end of June is exactly half the season.
  16. I'll take two 5s (and Woodruff's ceiling is absolutely higher than that) making $1 million combined over two 3/4 starters in their 30s making $30 million combined.
  17. Absolutely, yes.
  18. This has nothing to do with the Bucks but I promise it will be the best 85 seconds of your day.
  19. 100% this. Fans who already wanted to go to Cubs games were going to go, presale or not. There are a ton of Cubs fans in Wisconsin, they will also be able to get presale tickets. People who don't want to go to these games will just buy these tickets and then put them on craigslist or stubhub or whatever and they'll go to the highest bidders, likely Cubs fans. The Brewers twitter account seems completely obsessed with the Cubs lately which is embarrassing.
  20. He could always do this.
  21. And that's the thing that agents need to get through their heads. Front offices are much smarter now, they are just not going to go out and give those insane contracts in free agents. You might be able to get a high AAV contract but you're going to have to go low on years to mitigate the risk for the team. Or you can get more years but you're going to have to take less AAV so if the player does decline in the last couple of years, they don't have $20+ million of wasted payroll. In the next CBA players should push for higher wages for MiLB players (they won't) and a higher minimum salary and earlier arbitration (they probably won't).
  22. Again, you're already starting $600 million in the hole. Now you potentially lose money for an undetermined amount of years. Say $1 million for 20 years. How much money do you think the team will sell for in 2040? The last two teams to sell were the Islanders for $485 million in the largest market in the country and the Hurricanes just sold for $420 million as the only professional team in the market.
  23. Yeah, even if the Jays decide to rebuild or semi-rebuild, those two could anchor their rotation for a long time.
  24. How unfortunate.
