  1. We should be making decisions based on the standings and the talent level of the teams we're chasing. We're 2nd in the division against the defending World Series champions who are much more talented than we are. We're 4.5 games out of the 2nd wildcard. Our schedule doesn't offer many breaks at all. Nationals, Cubs, Cards and Rays in our next 12. Still have a 9 game road trip and have to come back right after that with 4 games against the Nationals. Still have 6 against the Cubs in September. Still have 8 games against the Pirates who we're 3-8 against. It would be absolutely moronic for us to buy right now.
  2. I mean I know Broxton strikes out way too much and it's a problem he needs to fix if he's going to be a career starting caliber CF at the MLB level, but if you're expecting Phillips to be a big upgrade in that department you're likely going to be disappointed. For one, it's not hard to improve on "leading the league in strikeouts" as is the case with Broxton. And two, where did I say anything about Phillips? He's just saying that Phillips strikes out a lot too (nearly 30% in Colorado Springs this year) so if you're frustrated with Broxton's at bats, you're probably going to be frustrated with Phillips too.
  3. I will. Even if I wasn't interested, I sure wouldn't switch to being interested in a bunch of dudes running around in shorts for two hours. Preseason football by itself is awful. Watching players get prepared for that is even worse.
  4. You base it on the standings and the talent of your competitors. We are at best two games ahead of the Cu 's and that requires a pretty huge comeback in this game and the Cubs are a much more talented team. We would be completely insane to buy right now.
  5. Buy mode was semi-interesting when we had a 5.5 game buffer, which still isn't a lot but leaves some wiggle room. We would be insane to buy at this point possibly being caught by the end of the night by a team that is much more talented than we are.
  6. Luiz Gohara would've been awesome to go out and trade for this winter, especially considering the low price he went for.
  7. I don't see how Perez bunting Thames to 3rd is anything but stupid. Thames isn't fast, so even if he gets to 3rd, there's no guarantee he scores on any medium depth fly ball. Neris himself is a pretty good strikeout pitcher adding to the risk that no ball is even put in play with less than two outs and of course, you have to get a decent bunt on a decent pitch. The pitch that Perez bunted wasn't decent, it was a bad pitch that was extremely difficult to bunt so you have to have a hitter who's disciplined enough to wait for a good pitch to bunt. Perez is a lot of things but one of those things isn't disciplined enough to wait for a good pitch to bunt.
  8. Phillies did a great job tanking there. No outs in the inning, 3 runs already in and you're bunting with the top of the order.
  9. Why in God's name would you trade one of the best prospects in baseball plus more for Verlander and Kinsler?
  10. And play him where? Once Braunfels is back the outfield is pretty much set and you're having o e of Phillips and Brinson on the bench. Now obviously Braunfels will probably miss more time but I'm not a fan of having him sit for a few days. Let him play everyday I CS until there's a more permanent spot open.
  11. Well, every mediocre player that gets posted about here ends up being a Brewer so at this point I'd be shocked if Romo wasn't a Brewer.
  12. I don't see how losing to a really good starting pitcher with our 4 or 5 starter is the worst loss of the season. I mean, this is probably the best loss of the losing streak. We blew a 5-0 lead and gave up 5 runs in the 8th and 9th innings in back to back games against the Cubs in April.
  13. Have you been watching all the blown leads this bullpen has had since the All star break?? Have you been watching how many runs have been scored? They haven't scored more than 3 runs in a week. The one time they had a lead late, Knebel blew it. Every other time the starter gave up a lead or a reliever came in when they game was already tied or likely to be tied given the situation when the starter was pulled.
  14. 20 innings of Justin Wilson will definitely change the team's fortunes.
  15. They had one 7 game losing streak and never lost more than 3 in a row at any other point in the season.
  16. That inning right there is why I have no confidence in Hader being a starter.
  17. I guess Counsell thought he was back on track because he got the pitcher out. Nope. Derp.
  18. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/07/justin-verlander-trade-rumors-brewers-tigers.html#comments Recommend reading the comments if you want to laugh.
  19. Of course the schedule isn't equal. Would you rather be Seattle and have to use off days to fly hours and hours across the country because you're in a corner? Would you rather be Texas or Houston being fairly acclimated to the Central time zone but having to play a ton of West Coast games every year? Complaining about the schedule right now is seriously one of the weirdest things I've ever seen considering we just had the all-star break and we have an off day three days after the Cubs do.
  20. Yeah, I didn't really look into it but I remember reading something for hitters that power and discipline tend to peak a little later but everything else peaks earlier and the peak age of a hitter overall is 27 or 28 so I went with that. I think that article was from like 2003 or something so things might have changed since then.
  21. How do the Brewers have an off day on Monday while the Cubs continue to play? Sad! The point being was that the Cubs have played three less games. Every team is going to play 162 in the same time frame so complaining about when a team gets an off day is incredibly weird.
