  1. I don't see how that can be read several different ways. The only way I read it is some team has a significant piece on the table and if you want him, you better be willing to put a piece better than that on the table.
  2. I don't know if you can say they're smart when they are quite obviously robbing other teams blind. It just seems like they know the guys they can take to the cleaners. Isn't it smart to go to the stupid/desperate teams before anyone else to be able to pick who they want?
  3. Strongly disagree, while no prospect is lighting it up statistically that doesn't mean there isn't a ton of potential. There's potential but it's hard to disagree with what he's saying. Look at our top 2 prospects coming into the year. Arcia is struggling to post a .700 OPS while playing half his games in Colorado Springs. Phillips is trying to get his average to .230 and is striking out 37% of the time in AA. Really, the only prospects in our top 10 that are meeting or exceeding expectations so far this year are Hader and then maybe Clark and Ponce. That's not good.
  4. I don't get why Frazier and maybe Zimmer are untouchable for the Indians too. I mean, for a reliever, I get that but for an all-star catcher? Unless they think Brantley won't be the same player after his injury. Brantley/Naquin/Frazier or Zimmer and then DH Chisenhall I guess?
  5. The Mets offer wasn't even low-balling. It was embarrassing.
  6. That's going to backfire hard if the Rangers get a pitcher.
  7. This and it would be such a disappointment if we made no trades. At the very least I don't think we'll see a sellers market for relievers like this for a while, not to mention the volatility of relievers anyways. And there's not a single reason for Lucroy to be here on August 2nd. His value is as high as it's ever going to be. If you're not getting the offers you want now with at minimum of 3 contenders bidding for him, you aren't going to get better offers when he has less control and you risk him getting a concussion again or breaking a toe or spraining an ankle. Play hard ball all you want but take the best offer on August 1st.
  8. Broxton won't get a shot either. Niewenhuis is still on the team.
  9. This is an amazing deal for the Yankees. Makes me want every one of our relievers traded in a huge sellers market like this.
  10. Because the team trading for him in the offseason gets to make him a qualifying offer and theoretically will offer more than they would in July. The Cubs are paying way too much if the Torres rumors are true.
  11. Honestly, after that I'd just tell them to piss off if I was Stearns. I don't think they have the pieces for him anyways.
  12. Ehh, I think a lot of you guys are forgetting how many bad pitchers we had earlier in the year that aren't with the team anymore/right now. Including Smith's blowup today the group of Jeffress, Thornburg, Smith, Boyer, Torres, Mahrinez, Cravy and Barnes has an ERA of exactly 3. On the flip side, Blazek, Knebel, Kirkman, Capuano, Goforth, Ramirez, Freeman and Pena have an ERA of 6.94. That brings the bullpen ERA to 4.02. 234 innings, 78 earned runs for the first group. 81.2 innings, 63 earned runs for the second group.
  13. I'd reconsider having Ross as my personal catcher if I was Lester. He is awful. Two strikeouts have turned into base runners because of his old, scrub ass.
  14. The offers are only going to get lower after the trade deadline. Lucroy needs to be traded in the next week.
  15. Shut up Bill. To me it looked like he clipped Warren's foot which caused his own foot to go in the air and allowed Warren to get the tag on just before his foot came back down on the plate. It certainly wasn't a "brutal call" the way Bill described it.
  16. What I don't get is how nobody caught him. There had to be players or clubhouse attendants or someone in there while he was cutting the jerseys up. I just don't get why the White Sox were being so difficult about this. If your starting pitcher says a jersey isn't comfortable, why would you make him wear it? If it's that uncomfortable, you would think other players would be uncomfortable wearing them too. Wouldn't you then ask what's uncomfortable about them and seek suggestions on how to make them more comfortable and then not wear them until those adjustments are made? Obviously Sale shouldn't have cut the jerseys up but still, listen to your players and fix the problem, don't make them wear the jerseys.
  17. Here comes a GIDP by Heyward because he's awful. Nice contract Theo.
  18. If I was a White Sox fan, I would be more upset about the tantrum he threw when they told that idiot LaRoche to keep his kid out of the locker room occasionally than I would be about this.
  19. If MLB wants to speed the game up, they should hire better umpires who know the strike zone. I follow a bunch of games on gameday and the number of pitches inside the strike zone that are called balls is astonishing.
  20. If I was a player for the Brewers, I would probably do the same thing. Or I'd just wear the uniform I want to wear and either make the team scratch me from the start or have everyone else go in and change uniforms.
  21. It was a 93 mph fastball right down the middle.
  22. "Let's throw 12 straight fastballs to a hitter and see what happens." Not exactly sure what the hell Lackey was doing there but even a crappy hitter is eventually going to center on a fastball when that's all you throw much less a good hitter like Lucroy.
  23. I had a search for Chris Sale because I wasn't signed in and I saw the verified check mark next to his name. Maybe I just saw the check mark of someone else right above or below the fake Olney account though.
