  1. To be fair, he was decent in starts that weren't in Colorado Springs but yeah, he just doesn't have the threat of a third pitch to be a starter. He might do okay against the Braves because their offense is horrible but against a team with a decent lineup, don't see it happening.
  2. Do you really think if we don't have an abundance of SS, CF or pitching prospects that we couldn't trade one of them for a 1B prospect when we actually need one?
  3. He's at 1.05 GO/AO. In other words, for every 105 ground ball outs he gets, he gets 100 outs in the air. That's not a lot at all.
  4. Davis has a .295 OBP this year. Why are some so worked up about him being traded? He's Mark Trumbo. Guys like that don't have a lot of trade value and just aren't very valuable players.
  5. Guzman would be a downer to me. Everyone is so worried about a first base prospect. That's pretty much the last position I'd look to be trading for. Give me someone athletic and up the middle or a pitcher. Unless it's like Prince Fielder, who you know is going to mash in the big leagues but that isn't the kind of prospect Guzman is.
  6. I think you'll find that to be quite impossible.
  7. Unless someone can help him regain his bat speed to turn on inside pitches and I'm not sure how you teach that, he shouldn't be a target. His five lowest exit velocities are off the plate inside and on the inner third of the plate. Basically, if you crowd him in, he's not hitting it hard.
  8. Well, they're much better than their road uniforms. I'll give them that.
  9. He based his grades on people that were willing to talk to him. If he asked two different people, the Brewers would probably end up with an A. It's just that the people he did talk to thought our moves were crap. I'll listen to what Jim Callis says or what the guys at BA say over a couple of random executives that Heyman talks to.
  10. When is the last time the Brewers have won 88 or more games in 3 consecutive years? Like the late 70s? Has it ever even happened? They were incredibly unlucky last year. They had the second best record in MLB. Unfortunately for them, the Cardinals had the best record so they didn't automatically get to the NLDS and even unluckier in that the team that had to face in a one game playoff was the team that had the third best record in baseball and had to face a pitcher who had given up 13 earned runs in his last 131 innings. This year they've struggled, no doubt. Liriano got a lot worse, apparently he wasn't listening to the coaches. Cole missed over a month. McCutchen has been awful. But they still have a deep farm system and quality young pieces in the majors. Marte, Polanco, McCutchen if he can rebound, Cole, Taillon and then Bell, Glasnow, Newman, Meadows (which may allow them to trade McCutchen if he gets enough value back), Kuhl and Kingham. They have a chance to be a really, really good team again next year and in the years to come.
  11. He's at 8 years, 129 days of service time right now. 172 days is a full year of service time, so he'll be over 9 years of service time when the season is over. I don't think he'll get to 10 years before the trade deadline, so yeah, if we're going to trade him, this winter or next summer will be the ideal time to do it before his 10/5 rights kick in.
  12. It's the way small markets have A short window of time..... A long window has never existed for small market teams. I think the Rays proved that small markets can have large windows. Now that went away after Friedman left and pretty much every move they've made since he left has been a disaster but they were a really good team for a number of years. The Pirates, despite their down year made the playoffs 3 straight years and would've been the first wildcard every year, they've just had to face Bumgarner and Arrieta the last two wildcards. It's unlucky for them that the wildcard turned into a 1 game playoff instead of just the first wildcard making it and they're poised for another run next year despite their down year this year. It's all about cycling talent. You keep as many core players as you can and the ones you can't keep, either because you don't have the budget or they want to get to free agency as fast as possible, whatever the case may be, you trade them a couple of years before they reach free agency to maximize their value. That way you keep the system filled with young, cheap talent. You may lose out on a couple of wins the next year or two but you keep the talent flowing and new waves coming through.
  13. One less Top 100 guy. Plus they would have had two other prospects. But I agree, probably wouldn't be #1 without a big name like Brinson. No, it would've been two. Mejia was only in Baseball America's top 100 list, not MLB Pipeline's.
  14. At least Arcia got to play 14 consecutive innings before being benched.
  15. I've heard some say that Susac has a weak arm and doesn't throw out base stealers. I was looking at the top 100 prospects for 2015 and came across the scouting grades for Susac. http://www.baseballamerica.com/minors/top-100-prospects-tools-2/#SoTEfm3e6UilSTQF.97 Thought it was interesting that his arm is rated as his best tool.
  16. I don't know. I'm just going by what Olney said on the radio today. I do think Attanasio probably really likes him. He was the first draft pick of the team with Attanasio as the owner. He has been a star player since his debut, which will be a decade after this season. Yeah, there's the PED thing but I also think Attanasio will want players for the casual fan as well, so Braun has that going for him as well. I'd like to see Braun traded as I don't really have any interest in paying Braun $80 million through the 2021 season while we're going to be rebuilding for at least a couple of those seasons. Add that to him having a relatively injury free year and great offensive season and this being a really weak free agent market and I think this winter is the right time to trade him. Especially with his 10/5 rights kicking in soon.
  17. I hope we start losing after these next 11 games. San Diego, Arizona, Atlanta and Cincinnati are all terrible, so we'll probably go like 8-3 against them, especially with 7 of the games at home. But even after that our schedule doesn't look that difficult to me. 11 against the Cubs with 8 of them on the road will be tough. 7 against the Cardinals will be tough and 3 at Texas will be tough but other than that? Not a tough schedule at all. 3 at Seattle, 3 vs Colorado, 4 vs Pittsburgh (who we own at home for whatever reason), 3 at Pittsburgh, 3 at Cincinnati, 3 vs Pittsburgh, 3 vs Cincinnati, 3 at Colorado. It's either bad teams like Cincinnati or mediocre teams like Pittsburgh, Seattle and Colorado sandwiched between our 21 tough games. This team hasn't shown themselves to be bad enough to lose these games with any regularity, especially against Pittsburgh and especially at home where we're 5 games over .500. It would be pretty disappointing to me to end up with a 9-13ish draft pick but that looks like it's where we're heading to me.
  18. Have you heard anything about the Brewers paying part of the contract to better the return? I also heard Buster Olney say today that Braun might not be traded because of his personal relationship with Attanasio. I hope that's not true but wouldn't be surprised if it was.
  19. I wouldn't return that trade if the Giants asked me to. If they have a problem with it, they can file a grievance with MLB and let them decide. He struck out the first guy, a weak ground ball found a hole and then he got too much of the plate with a fastball and it was hit to the wall. A little unlucky and then one bad pitch. He was up to 94 tonight and he passed his physical. The Giants don't really have an argument here if they try to make one.
  20. Hopefully we can just let this thread fall to the bottom now that we've traded for Susac.
  21. rebuild : to build (something) again after it has been damaged or destroyed : to make important improvements or changes in (something) You don't rebuild by keeping the same players. Especially when those players play a physically challenging position and are leaving their prime. You trade them for the best deal you can before they lose all their value by either declining in play or getting to free agency and leaving that way.
  22. He'll wear the number of former Brewers great Yuniesky Betancourt.
  23. Gallardo did.
  24. I think this is definitely a Mark A. move. It has to be. Why else would they call him up a day after the trade deadline? They're on the road, so the broadcast can say "top prospect Orlando Arcia, get your tickets for the next homestand now!"
