  1. Seems to me that they'd be OK with moving the team if the city doesn't step up. They'll make a good faith effort because they agreed to but I don't think they're feeling any pressure. Uhh, the NBA buys back the team from them if they don't get it done for little if any profit. They have every reason to get a deal done because they won't have a team if they don't.
  2. Title should be changed to "If stupid fans were thrust into GM roles"
  3. If his hometown Braves haven't been able to extend him, we have no shot. I don't want Heyward. One year and then he's gone, no thanks.
  4. So you're saying you're going to go all in on screaming?
  5. I mean, it's probably manageable payroll wise if you trade one of Gallardo, Garza or Lohse and replace them with either Fiers or Nelson and completely go cheap in the later years of the deal when Gallardo, Lohse, Ramirez and probably Gomez and Lucroy are gone. But we aren't going to be and shouldn't be the team taking a risk on an 7-9 year contract worth $175-200 million for a 30 year old pitcher.
  6. He doesn't know close to as much as he thinks either. Also disagree about his coverage. It could be the middle of June with absolutely no football going on and he'll find some way to talk about football. Guy is a complete clown.
  7. They've beaten two D-League teams and blew a 24 point lead against a mediocre team. These 4 games tell us nothing other than old scrubs like Dudley, Zaza and Ersan somehow continue to get playing time over young guys who need minutes to develop.
  8. Good luck with that. We should be ecstatic if Fiers does what he did last year. Even if his ERA drops 1.3-1.5 points that's still incredible value.
  9. I'm not opposed to trading Gallardo at all. I'd just like someone younger than Van Slyke or a prospect better than Farmer if we go with Van Slyke. Assuming he pitches like he normally does we would probably offer him the QO in which case I'd rather have pitching depth and do that than make some bad deal to clear money. If we're getting legitimate players/prospects back, that's a different story.
  10. I think you are underestimating his value. A proven pitcher who is a lock to toss 180-200 innings and post an ERA in the mid to high 3s has quite a bit of value. Van Slyke is a nice player, but trading Yo should get a much better return. He does have a quite a bit of value. Its worth about $12-15 million for a year. Gallardo's FIP the past three years: 3.94, 3.89, 3.94. He has a distinct pattern. And Van Slyke was a monster last year to the tune of .297/.386/.524. He has 455 major league plate appearances and has the line of .261/.348/.476. And he's .254/.333/.421 against righties. Sorry if I want a little more than a weak side platoon bat that's basically the same age as Gallardo if we're trading Gallardo.
  11. That's awful for us. I don't think that's unrealistic at all, and if improves the team more than holding onto Gallardo does. How does that improve the team? Two weakside platoon players (including one terrible one in Darwin Barney) and a catching prospect who's 24 and played most of the year in the Midwest League. If that's what we can get for Gallardo, it's much better to just keep him.
  12. Not true at all. Unless of course we're assuming every player from every team will play exactly the same next year. Which obviously won't happen.
  13. I think Cabrera would look for and find a starting job. Off the top of my head the Nationals and Blue Jays would take him as their starting 2nd baseman.
  14. Why the hell are you comparing Reynolds of 5 years ago? That Reynolds is long gone. Brewers 1st basemen hit a combined .208/.299/.374 last year. That's what you need to be comparing Lind to.
  15. 26 year old Lind hit .237/.287/.425. So no, I don't think you'd want him.
  16. Estrada will really hate "Rogers Centre." Why is "Heyman" putting that in "quotation marks?"
  17. The problem with Vitters is he swings at everything. MLB pitchers will just throw everything out of the zone and he'll chase it. The same problem many of our current hitters already have.
  18. It might be worth buying if they made it out of a non-worthless metal that you could scrap after you redeemed your ticket.
  19. There is nothing Salvador Perez won't swing at.
  20. I would love to hear them. Really the only teams that I think are on a downward slide in the Central are the Reds and us.
  21. Is that supposed to be a joke? After the all-star break in 2010 Macha sat Escobar every time he went 1-10 in a series claiming he was trying to hit HRs... he of 21 HRs in 2974 ABs. I wish Alcides would have filled out his frame more as he had double digit HR potential at his peak but those guys who go play winter ball aren't going to do that. Escobar only got a chance in 2009 because Melvin basically stole an extra year of Hardy's service time, that had less to do with Alcides than it did Hardy as Macha had no alternative but to play him. Macha was the worst offender of the bunch which is why the organization latched onto McGehee at 3B over Gamel. Yea I know Mat blew out his knee 3 times so hasn't amounted to much but that doesn't mean his career path had to go the way it did. Sitting a top prospect on the bench, something he's never done, while adjusting to MLB pitching was a terrible way to introduce him to Major League baseball. Macha was the one manager that I truly despised. You read that wrong. He said Macha was the one manager we've had recently that wouldn't play young players.
  22. The problem is two other teams in the division have better cores, the Reds might as well if they go for it next year and Votto is healthy and the Cubs have the best farm system in baseball and the money to spend on whatever they need to when they decide the time is right leaving us where exactly? 4th or 5th place.
  23. Wow, Andrew Friedman left the Rays to become the Dodgers president of baseball operations.
