  1. Not really sure what your point is about Houston. They make $80 million per year from their local TV contract alone, their payroll is under $40 million. They're in great shape financially.
  2. It's really annoying listening to BA. "You just know Hellweg is going to have a good career, you know with the way he goes about his business." I know a lot of you think he's great but he's just a homer who spouts clichéd garbage broadcast after broadcast.
  3. I said on another board that ERA in Nashville was the worst thing to happen to Hellweg. Made them believe he was ready to contribute when he clearly wasn't. He needs to go back down to Nashville after the game. Bring up a reliever and let Thornburg start.

  5. Yes Now flip the question. If you were a D-Backs fan would you make that trade? My answer is no way The thought of getting Skaggs and maybe the some other talent at this deadline and then having a top 5 pick in the draft next year is pretty exciting. We have got some younger arms who look like they have potential to be solid arms but not top end guys. Skaggs and a high pick could give us some top end arms. We also need impact bats but I would settle for some top arms Why would I have to flip the question? GM's make moves that fans hate all the time. It doesn't matter if 50,000 fans oppose the move if the only one that can make it is the GM. Do you think D'Backs fans were happy trading Upton and Johnson for Prado, Delgado, Spruill, Ahmed and Drury? Probably not. If it leaked out before and the fans hated it, would that change Towers' mind on the deal? Probably not.
  6. Adam McCalvy‏@AdamMcCalvynow RRR said something tightened up on Gomez after his wall-banging catch in the 6th, though he wouldn't say what. Gomez seemed to disagree.
  7. That Neil Diamond song was pretty terrible. He should've just sang "America".
  8. I like the thinking. Problem is a lot of GM's don't like to "trade within the division" because they're scared of the trade coming back to bite them more than it would in a different division/league. I hate that, take the best offer regardless of team but it always needs to be taken into consideration.
  9. Wow, blast from the past. When was the last time sbrylski posted here?
  10. Yes it is, considering McCalvy, you know that respected beat writer talked to a club official who thought he would go through arbitration only to find out now that he won't and will be a free agent after 2014.
  11. The funny thing about this is TheCrew07 has probably the most foresight on this board. It's one of the things that make him one of the best posters on here, even if many disagree with his opinions.
  12. We should trade him assuming we get a good offer. We have depth in the outfield, we're not going to be contenders next year, no way should he get a qualifying offer and he's going to be 33 when he's a free agent. That's another player to sell.
  13. I don't see why. He's 30, he's cheap, he's controllable, he has closer experience™. That's exactly the type of player we should be selling and trying to get good value for. He's not some future building block for the team. He's an older reliever, that's not someone you hang on to if you get a good offer.
  14. You knew Betancourt was going to get a start today after he got a hit last night.
  15. Because, long term, imo his role will be in the bullpen. So I want to see him get acclimated to that asap. If they feel he's a reliever long term, then he should be relieving in the minors and not starting. Hopefully next year we can let him start in the majors and see how it goes. If he sucks, then use him as a reliever. I'm going to be pretty mad if they don't at least try him as a starter first though.
  16. I think the last four are completely unrealistic.
  17. If they were stupid enough to trade for Ellis and Redick with 1.5 and .5 years left on their contracts, that's their fault.
  18. He's been fantastic this year. The strikeouts are up (though not what they were when he was dominant back in 2005 and 2006) and the walks are way down (again not like 2005 and 2006). His season so far reminds me a lot of his 2010 season. Fantastic signing by the Pirates.
