  1. Without the Miami New Times MLB doesn't know a damn thing about Biogenesis and the 12 players suspended probably passed several dozen tests. How people (especially Bud) thinks the tests work is absolutely laughable to me.
  2. Non-tender. Maybe sign for $1-2 million if he gets no other offers and wants to stay here.
  3. Knock Knock Who's there? Queen Queen who? Queen my dishes please.
  4. Gonzalez has to lead the league in falling down after delivering a pitch.
  5. No game thread in the 6th inning. Brewers trail 1-0 thanks to an awful error by Francisco. Seriously, get Davis a 1st base glove. There's no way he's worse than Francisco out there and I'd rather see what he can do with the bat.
  6. Wow, just looked at some stats and Prince Fielder is only hitting .260/.355/.434 this year.
  7. Couple of things. Garza needs to learn the difference between there, their and they're. How 1910 of him.
  8. And they're stupid. A .240 OBP is embarassing for a non-pitcher, especially one getting as many at bats as Yuni.
  9. How cheaply could we get a bench player with a .300 OBP, a vast improvement over Betancourt?
  10. Did anyone happen to catch Sophia say Hellweg only had 12 walks in his last 3 starts covering 18 innings, making it sound like that was good?
  11. Roenicke is an idiot if he said that.
  12. Just so we're all aware. Dan Haren - .219/.219/.336 Yuni - .212/.238/.368
  13. The longer Lohse stays with the Brewers, the older he gets and the better chance that he's ineffective/injured. That's why a lot of people were so against the signing (along with the draft pick tied to signing him). Sure he may go the whole contract without getting hurt while still being effective but he's 34 years old in the first year of the deal. I certainly wouldn't bet on it happening.
  14. That's why some of us wanted Aoki traded. He's an older, mediocre hitter with one more year on his contract. Gindl in RF, Davis in LF.
  15. The problem with Marcum was he was two years away from free agency, had a pretty significant injury history and was already 29 years old. Even if he pitched well, with his injury and his stuff would you really want to re-sign him if he had pitched two healthy years with the Brewers? I wouldn't have. As far as what could have been done. Baseball America ranked Lawrie as the #40 prospect in baseball that year. Two pitching prospects from teams that wanted offense were traded either that trade deadline or the next winter. Michael Pineda of the Mariners (#16 by BA) and Zack Wheeler (#55 by BA). I would have gone after either of them first. Obviously Pineda has been hurt with the Yankees but even if he got traded to the Brewers and got hurt I would have at least understood the reasoning behind the trade, a top prospect pitcher with great stuff and 5 years of team control left. Wheeler is obviously a top prospect and is now in the bigs for the Mets.
  16. Is he? This year his OPS+ is 100, his wOBA is .324 and his wRC+ is 104. That's the very definition of average.
  17. I was just discussing the value of the draft pick assuming that was offered because everyone here apparently would have hated the deals that the D'Backs got for Kennedy and the Astros got for Norris.
  18. Both teams got draft picks for their respective starters. I would've have taken that for Lohse, probably not for Gallardo but definitely for Lohse. The odds of a draft pick that low in the draft isn't anything close to a good deal for the best pitcher on our staff. The odds are against drafting a player who even gets to the majors let alone provide a sub 4 ERA starting pitcher. I may be in the minority here but I think stock piling draft picks in baseball is over rated. It's just too easy to trade spare parts for minor league players to boost the system. No need to trade viable starter just to get another amateur in the system. Now if we could trade for a top five or ten pick it might be a different story. But the picks that can be traded are not anywhere near that level. He's the best pitcher on our staff now. What if he pulls a Wolf next year and blows up? Then we have an albatross contract on our hands and the deal involving a draft pick looks really good. The chances Lohse is going to continue to be our best pitcher is remote. We're not competing, there's no need for him, why not trade him when you could actually get value?
  19. Property Wars ftw.
  20. It's so awesome watching the Pirates play well with PNC Park filled.
