  1. You make it sound like he's a 21 year old stud prospect instead of the 31 year old journeyman that he is.
  2. When I do mad libs, I use words that would get me banned.
  3. Oh good. I was wondering when I would get the joy of seeing Betancourt at 1st base again.
  4. Glad we're hanging on to a slap hitting corner outfielder with a little over a year left of control when we have a bunch of young outfielders that would benefit from some playing time.
  5. Pretty cool story on how the NL almost added the DH for the 1982 season but a fishing trip prevented it. http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=9515914
  6. About as good as her songs too.
  7. And these young guys need guys in the clubhouse to show them how to handle a long season like this, or any 162 game season. Lots of ups and downs in every season, and the young guys need to be shown how to deal with it. And do you really think that Josh Prince, with a career minor league OPS of .670, is going to be better than Yuni? What exactly is Yuni going to show them? He doesn't speak English, so they can't ask him and do we really want them emulating Yuni on the field? There is no logical reason for Yuni to be on the team.
  8. If you get 1,000 RBI's, you're a hall of famer. /Bill Schroeder logic
  9. Actually, yes. By carrying 13 pitchers and only 5 infielders they need someone who can play every infield position. Halton can't play SS, probably can't play 2B, and given his size would probably be worse defensively than Yuni at 3B. From what I hear Yuni is a really good clubhouse guy - always smiling, always happy, keeps things loose. In a season like this they probably need that in the clubhouse. I have a hard time believing Prince would be worse at SS, 2B or 3B than Yuni. I don't particularly care about the clubhouse at this point. It's a bunch of young guys who are eager to play in the bigs, they don't need Yuni's happy sunshiney-ness.
  10. Starting again at 3rd tonight. You suck, Roenicke.
  11. Not sure if we could get either one but Lohse would be gone in a second if the A's offered Gray or Ynoa.
  12. I think Von Miller's suspension is about marijuana, not PED's.
  13. What if Yo hit and killed somebody and got charged with something like intoxication manslaughter? Yes, Braun's actions may have had a tiny effect on the game but who is he really endangering? K-Rod (allegedly) beat a woman, if he did do it he should be in jail. Yo drove drunk, he endangered the lives of everyone driving near him that night. He should be in jail. Braun took PED's, in the grand scheme of things, big deal what Braun did compared to K-Rod and Yo.
  14. http://mlb.mlblogs.com/2013/07/26/braves-now-in-pursuit-of-a-front-line-starting-pitcher/
  15. Yeah, what Braun did isn't even close to the worst thing two other Brewers did in the past 10 or so months. I think drunk driving is one of the dumbest, most reckless things a person can do and when I was growing up my dad taught me and my brothers one of the absolute worst things you can do is a hit a woman. Doesn't matter if she's throwing stuff at you or is punching you or whatever, you never hit a woman.
  16. I guess I can understand keeping Gallardo and hoping he can rebound but I see no reason to keep Lohse. Even if he continues pitching like this through the rest of his contract what are the chances they're going to be meaningful in terms of team record?
  17. Great post MJ.
  18. I'm not sure what the average line is but there are 17 qualified 2nd basemen in baseball this year. Weeks is 11th in wOBA. My main point is if Gennett is barely keeping his OPS above .700 the last two seasons in the minors, how is he going to look in the majors against better pitching? Will it match Weeks' .322 OBP and .377 SLG%?
  19. I'm not sure how much you can learn from a handful of AB's. How about his .292/.330/.385/.715 line in 2012 in Huntsville or his .293/.337/.387/.724 line in Nashville? Both are pretty terrible.
  20. So everyone agrees that the lying is worse than the actual PED use, correct? In that case ESPN still deserves quite a bit of blame for leaking a story that was supposed to be confidential. No leak, no press conference, no lies.
  21. Axford will probably be moved too. Likely getting non-tendered in the offseason and has been lights out the last few months. I'd move Gorzelanny too. I don't really care if we go into August with 7 new relievers.
