The JSOnline suggests that part of the rationale for Cirillo at short is punishment for Hall's leaving his bat at the plate. What Capuano did to deserve this punishment is not immediately apparent.

If Hall is being punished, then I credit Ned for showing some leadership. I was personaly not impressed with what Hall did and it looked really bad considering everything else going on with the team lately.
