corey patterson

Now that patterson has left boras and is looking for a shot to play in the big leagues, he has said he is looking for a minor league contract with a invitation to big league camp. Do you think it would be worth the gamble to bring in Patterson? Would lose a lot of power, but could trade Cameron for pitching. Patterson is a career .253 hitter with speed and average defender. He did have a horrible year but by giving him a decent contract (Like a 1-year deal worth 750K with some incentives) I think it might be worth the gamble.

No way, no how. He makes Hall's offense last year look good. He has a .291 career OBP and never higher than .329. He is a sucky player, and that's being nice.

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.

His defensive is better than Cameron. even though the numbers are really close so we wouldn't be gaining much on the defensive standpoint, he is younger and faster. plus he has a lefty bat

Wasn't there a study a few years ago that had Corey Patterson as the worst regular MLB player?
Either that or Nefi Perez.

Patterson right now is a 5th OF at best though I wouldn't mind having Patterson as depth in the OF in the minors or just giving him a contract to compete for a backup job in spring training. But I still wouldn't sign him because at best he would be Tony Gwynn Jr. Patterson is in decline right now and I wouldn't give him a contract. I do see Patterson signing on with another team though just not with the Brewers and if he can put up some numbers close to what he did in Baltimore he could be a decent 4th/5th OF for someone.

If he is looking for a minor league deal, why would we give him a 750 K deal with incentives to boot. Patterson is not good enough to start for any major league team, and probably not good enough to play on any team either. Patterson's only real strength is power, and speed. He does not get on base ever, so his speed is useless, and the slugging does not make up for the fact that he will only reach base 30% of the time, if he is having a good year.

What is it about the fascination of some about certain guys? It seems every year somebody brings up Patterson. If he were any good, somebody would want him. He's had 3,466 major league at bats and he's proven he's a lousy hitter. How much more evidence do we need?

I think its the fact that he was once considered a can't miss prospect who had a little major league success, and that Melvin is known for finding nuggets is why people bring up names like Corey Patterson.

I for one, have no interest in Corey Patterson as a Brewer, unless he agreed to a minor league deal w/ and invite to ST.

I would be against signing Patterson as well, but just thought I should remind everyone that Melvin himself did comment that speed players often take longer to develop than other types of players (he said that when talking about Scotty Po seemingly coming out of nowhere).

I had never looked at Patterson's age until you brought up speed players developing slower. Patterson is going to be 29 next year, I could have sworn he was much older, it seems like he has been around forever. Still I do not anticipate him breaking out anytime soon, he will be 29 next year, his 10th season in the majors. He seems to be slowing down as well with 14 Stolen, against 9 caught last year.

I don't think he is slowing down at all. He has only broken stealing 20 or more bases 3 times in his career. In each of his other full seasons he has been in the teens in stolen bases. Though I do believe Patterson was hampered with a hamstring or some kind of nagging leg injury last year. So that maybe of some concern with him.

If all he's really looking for is a minor league deal with an invite to spring training as he claims, I'd have no problem with that at all. I have no problem signing anyone to a minor league deal.

No way could Patterson be worse than Laynce Nix, but I'm not sure that's a strong selling point.

It's actually on his business cards. "Corey Patterson: No way could I be worse than Laynce Nix"
