Trade for Beltre?

What about a trade for Beltre that sends Hall and a prospect to the Mariners for Adrian Beltre. I believe Beltre has a few more good years in him this also frees up 3B for Gamel in 2010. I believe Beltre only has 1 more year on his current contract.

I'm not sure who the prospect would be to get the value of Hall up to where Beltre is at. I would guess that someone like Brewer or Gillespie would be interesting for the Mariners. I wouldn't mind also putting in some more minor league prospects in to get Bedard if he is healthy.

Would a Hall and Brewer/Gillespie be enough to get Beltre?

By Breakdown AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB HBP SO SB CS AVG OBP SLG OPS
vs. Left 150 30 51 11 0 8 22 21 0 18 2 1 .340 .421 .573 .994
vs. Right 406 44 97 18 1 17 55 29 2 72 6 1 .239 .290 .414 .704
Home 275 31 66 14 0 10 23 24 1 48 3 1 .240 .303 .400 .703
Away 281 43 82 15 1 15 54 26 1 42 5 1 .292 .349 .512 .861

I believe Beltre would benefit from playing in Milwaukee and the NL Central.

Bill Hall has negative value right now due to his abysmal batting vs right handers and his contract. If anything, having Hall in a deal means having to take on bad contract, and Beltre is reasonably priced for what he provides.

I'll just duck in here with my obligatory OMG I <3 BELTRE comment. It would be a dream to add him & lose Hall, but as RoCo said, Hall's contract makes that pretty unlikely.

What about a 3 team deal that would send Kennedy and Nady to the Mariners, Cameron and Hall to the Yankees, and Cabrera and Beltre to the Brewers. I'm not sure on Hall to the Yankees though I would guess that Kennedy wouldn't be in the deal unless Washburn was going to the Yankees?

The Mariners would receive a #3 or #4 type of a pitcher in Kennedy who I would think could excel in Seattle compared to being in NY. I'm not sure that Washburn would be needed for the Yankees though. I might be missing some prospects that would be going the Mariners way and less so for the Brewers and Yankees.

Hall was worth $5.7 million last season according to Fangraphs, so he wasn't a negative value player last season, and shouldn't be this next season unless his offense regresses even more. Hall's value last year was all in his defense, and he started out slow defensively for the 1st 3rd of the season. He could be worth a considerable amount of wins with a strong full season of defense and a slightly improved bat.

Why would the Yankees give up Kennedy and Nady, two good players, for Cameron and Hall? The Yankees wouldn't even include Kennedy for Cameron, and that was without Hall's contract coming their way as well.

Because the Yankees need a CF and they already have enough corner outfielders and Kennedy would be in the bullpen more than likely. Cameron for Nady is equal. Hall wouldn't be a bad contract for the Yankees at all. If anything the Brewers would probably have to move a minor league bullpen player who is on the fringe of making the team Dillard and DiFelice type of pitchers.

To move Hall the Brewers would likely have to take Washburn (or even worse, Batista) back in return from the Mariners.

endaround, what's so bad about adding an expensive #4 starter? The only issue I would have is that I like Hall as a super utility guy, but we do need a pitcher.

I'd do it just that you would have to take back a contract. And I doubt the Brewers have enough room to add both Beltre and Washburn (after Hall that would be about $15m more in salary).

As for Hall, he was worth $5.7m when playing a lot. His lack of expected playing time cuts down his value and few teams would take on a contract thats' value is mostly due to his defense.

If Nady and Cameron are a wash, which is probably reasonable, that would make Hall and Kennedy even as well. As far as I know, Kennedy projects to be a 3-4 type starter who would be cheap for many years. That's a lot more valuable than Hall.

I think Beltre would actually be a good fit, but Seattle wouldn't take on Hall's contract....

I also agree he has at least a couple of decent offensive seasons left with stellar defense.

I also said that the Brewers would probably have to thrown in someone like DiFelice or Dillard to even out the trade.

DiFelice isn't a trade piece that anyone would covet. He's a 32 year with about 20 innings of major league experience. You can sign guys like him to minor league contracts.

It may be taking on $15M in contracts this year, but after this year, both contracts are off the books. Also, with Beltre at the hot corner, it would definitely strengthen the trade value of the Soup Nazi. I wish we would have gotten Rolen last year (I doubt he would have been nearly as bed-ridden playing in Milwaukee as opposed to the Canadian Metrodome), but Beltre is definitely a large upgrade on Hall.
