Pirates release Craig Monroe

His OBP from 06-08 is .285. This year against RHP his OBP is .211. We'd be better off sticking Hall back in CF.

I used to really like Craig Monroe in his Tiger days, but boy has he been bad since. Makes me wonder if his name won't be appearing on one of those lists soon.

Brendan Katin would probably at worst provide similar production. Imo Gerut is a far better option than Monroe.

I'm sure I'll get blasted for suggesting this team won't be in the race in late August, so let me emphasize that IF they are out of the race in late August, that Cameron will likely be dealt in a waiver deal or phased out of the lineup completely and we'll see a rotation of CF candidates from within including Gerut, Hall, and Jason Bourgeois trying to make an impression to compete for the 2010 job. That's why I think they'll hang on to Gerut for at least the rest of the season.

Why did we trade Gwynn again?
Because he stinks. His numbers are falling, as was easily predicted. They'll be bad in no time. Gerut's 865 OPS last year would have been 3rd best on the Brewers. He just needs some at-bats.

Also, what was so bad about Melky Cabrera?
The simple fact that he's not as good as Mike Cameron. Cameron has been 1.6 wins better, thats alot over a half season.

Anyone think the Yankees would consider something along the lines of Cameron and Hall for Cabrera? Brewers might have to sweeten the deal somewhat in order to get them to take Hall off our hands, but I think Cameron would be a great acquistion for them. Obviously a downgrade for the Brewers, but saying goodbye to Hall makes a net gain. probably just wishful thinking on my part, but...
