Brewers/Rockies/Twins Proposal

Just another idea to pass the winter.

Minnesota needs a SP & an OF. They are currently trying to resign Rondell White & have been linked to Jennings.

Colorado seems agreeable to trading Jennings after he broke off contract talks. They are looking for BP help & like Brady Clark for some reason.

The Brewers could use help in the BP & have an OF spot open (kind of).

Twins trade: Crain, Kubel, & Slowey/Perkins

Twins get: Jennings, Mench, & Hendrickson (throw in)

Rockies trade: Jennings

Rockies get: Clark, Tbow, & Slowey/Perkins

Brewers trade: Clark, Mench, Tbow, & Hendrickson

Brewers get: Kubel & Crain

The Twins seem down on Kubel, probably due to his injury history. His minor league #s are very good and worthy of the gamble. He hits for avg., decent power, walks alot, doesn't K much. Worse case scenario, Gross & a RHOF platoon in LF while he's in AAA or the DL. Crain would give the crew an 8th inning guy. Also, he & Capellan provide closer insurance in case Cordero leaves after this year.

The Twins badly need another arm. Jennings slides in the 2 slot, pushing back Bonzer, Silva, & Garza for a decent rotation. They also get a low K, decent power OF/DH in Mench. They usually don't deal prospects, but this deal does make sense for them.

The Rockies were rumored to send Jennings to the Astros for Burke & Lidge, so this deal at least is better than that. They fill a couple of holes, plus get a good pitching prospect.

Dish Jenkins & Sarfate to the Giants for Correia (long relief) & a nugget and the bullpen looks pretty good.

Thoughts?

Isn't Kubel out for the year again? With Weeks and Hardy unable to stay healthy, that's putting a lot of chips into very fragile guys. Crain would be a nice guy to get, but we're also giving up a possible 8th inning guy to get another. If Kubel is healthy I guess I wouldn't mind it, but I think he's currently way too much of a risk.

Seems like the Brewers are throwing away a lot of junk for a decent return in that trade. Maybe I'm thinking too highly of Crain, but that seems slanted a little too much in the Brewers favor.

I'd add Sarfate or some other minor leaguer to get this deal done.

Kubel is not out for the year again. He did just have surgery on his other knee, but it was much less severe than what went on before...the Twins say he'll be ready for spring training.

I think Jennings to the Twins for Crain and Slowey/Perkins makes more sense for Minnesota and Colorado, unfortunately.

I appreciate the thoughtfulness of the proposal, but I'd have to agree that we're just coughing up guys we don't really want. Mench, Clark and Tbow aren't worth a whole lot, and they are aren't exactly cheap.

Colorado doesn't need a corner OF - no point in them having Mench.

As someone said, they'd be far better off getting Slowey/Perkins and Crain for Jennings, then dealing for Clark for some thing small (because, quite frankly, at $3.8 million next year, we'd still probably have to kick in some $$$ on Clark's salary).

I think you're reading the trade wrong. Minnesota gets Mench (who I believe they like) and Colorado gets Clark, who is a centerfielder, which they need.

All I know is I saw a snippet in the Denver Post about how the Rockies may be interested in Clark if they struck out on all the free agent centerfielders.

We should've traded Clark in July when he still had at least a little value...

I thought I read somewhere that Kubel was probably only capable of DH'ing and that the Twins were leaving that spot open.

Considering all the guys the Brewers are giving up are basically addition by subtraction and payroll dumps, the deal works for me with just Crain.

Looks real familiar...since i chimed in with Mench and Hendrickson for Crain few days ago....add more trash that no one wants (Turnbow and BClark) and you get a young, former surething in Kubel??

A stretch...MN still likes him and his salary slot/upside a lot...a WHOLE lot...

btw...Aquino is the closer in training when Coco Go-goes...

Everything I've read says Ryan is reluctant to give up a young reliever in Crain even for a guy like Jennings. I doubt this package will excite him much. Kubel is still in the Twins plans for next year. They definitely need a LF but I think there are plenty of options out there for them. Jenkins or Mench for something smaller works for me. They have a ton of young pitching talent in the minors. Split the salary with them and get a prospect. I'd be happy to do that.

After watching the Twins try the cheap route with guys like Batista, White and Sierra, I doubt they'll give up anything of real value to get a left fielder.

A good friend of mine is a big Twins fan and it drives him nuts.

oh dougie is a genius... he is going to rid clark to colorado..and somehow get rid of counsell to one of those 2 teams ...therefore bringing mr. cirllo back where he belongs... oh we miss you jeff.......... it just doesn't feel right.. maybe doug can pull this off?
