I will offer to drive Cain and Jeffress to Tampa personally if Matt Garza can be had. I'd try to hang onto Gamel to play a corner IF position because, and I'll continue to beat the dead horse, it opens up so much more possibilities to trade Fielder for bats then.

I still think Prince Fielder + salary relief could get us some combination of Garza and prospects. The Rays go for it and free up and expensive spot in their rotation while adding the impact bat they need, and the Brewers get the pitching relief they want.

Phil Rogers of the Chicago Tribune reporting too.

"Matt" cain = Mat"t" Gamel & Lorenzo "Cain" ?

Yeah it says the supposedly untouchable Matt Cain. Neither one of those guys seem untouchable. I am not a fan of trading Gamel with Prince looking like he is gone and no replacement for him. I like Cain a lot too. But a rotation of Garza, Yo, Marcum, Wolfe, and whomever for the next couple years would be very good.

I think he just meant Lorenzo Cain and got him confused with the Giants pitcher.

Cain does not seem like a ton for Garza or am I mistaken?

We'd have to include another piece or two, I assume.

I wonder how big of pieces. I saw Garza is not a FA until 2014. Three years of a young pitcher with very good numbers seems like it would cost a lot. If Marcum cost Lawrie what should we assume Garza will cost?

If Lawrie can land Marcum then I have to imagine Cain + Jeffress could land Garza.

Edit: Do you think Gomez + Jeffress + Rivas/Peralta/Scarpetta would get it done?

I'd probably try and have Axford be the headliner for us if possible. Then offer Gamel. Then hope the Rays like Gomez enough. Then throw in a Scarpetta type. I doubt it'd get anywhere, but maybe an offer of Axford/Gomez/Gamel/Scarpetta. I think Braddock can close easy enough and see a ton of quality options for the rest of our bullpen.
