2011-08-01 Cardinals (Carpenter) at Brewers (Greinke) -- [Brewers win, 6-2]

Wow, talk about delusion.

Edit: Here's another fun quote from that same board:

"I don't believe the Brew Crew has the leadership to handle a central division race against the Cardinals. I also don't believe that Braun is a leader at all. I think he is more worried about his stats than he is winning a game. That isn't the Cardinal way of doing business. Also I believe PRince is more concerned about his contract for next season than he is beating the Cardinals. Whereas, Albert is solely concerned with winning the Central."

Here that guys? Prince is more concerned about his contract, but Albert is solely concerned with winning. I guess we should be worried about this series now!

The Cardinals have surpassed the Cubs as my most despised team. I'm sure if the Cubs were anywhere near respectable in the standings that might not be the case. 3 things, in particular, bug me with the Cardinals:

1) LaRussa

2) Pujols' mightier-than-thou attitude and his blatant show-boating while trying to come off as Mr. Squeaky Clean

3) The fact that the Cardinals seem to pick up everyone else's retreads each year, start them, and get awesome production out of them. Do not know if any team is luckier out there than them in that respect.

Couldn't agree more with everything you said, though I think for me it happened sometime during the later part of the the 2008 season. The 4 game sweep the Brewers had in St. Louis around this time that season is still one of my favorite Brewers memories ever. Love your avatar as well.

As annoying as it is that Cards fans think they're the greatest in the world, it's worse when others propagate it. During the Cards/Cubs game on ESPN last night Furcal got a big ovation for his first PA. Dan Shulman (who I like actually) was going on about the knowledgeable Cards fanbase cheering the new arrival. There's not a team in the league that wouldn't cheer a new player's first at bat, give me a break.

As long as the Brewers win 1 game this series I'll be content.

Guys, we all know that Albert plays for the love of the game, and not anything else! I mean, he just is a winner. Its the cardinal way...

The next 9 games will show us a lot about where we stand. 3 at home against StL, 3 at Houston and 3 at StL.

At worst we have to be 3-3 against StL and win the series against Houston. I'm all for optimism and thinking we can win each series and get a 6-3 record, but I will more than settle for a series split against StL and a series win against Houston. We cannot afford to go 5-4, but have a 2-4 record against StL with a sweep against Houston.

I was at the last three games of that series and the way I was treated was the worst fro, any opposing teams' fans and workers. I understand they were frustrated by they were pretty rude.

I would take that right now.

In a perfect world....

1: The Brewers sweep this series and untuck em after each win.

2: TLR is arrested for DUI. The officers who search his vehicle find a trunk full of HGH with a note on it that says "To Albert, From Mark." During the booking and interview at the police station, TLR admits to drinking a case of High Life. Between the slurs and vomiting he also mentions (on camera) that he is drinking Miller because he hates all things Bud. TLR is fired by the Cards due to pressure from corporate sponsors.

3: Pujols is sold to the Cubs. The money is used to finance the production of No, No, Nanette part deux.

4: Pujols signs a 10 year, $400 extension.

5: Chris Carpenter has to explain all of these things to his son.

Yes not only did ESPN make the idiotic comment that cheering Furcal showed what a "knowledgeable fanbase" St. Louis has but an inning later (after Furcal and Theriot had the crucial fails of the game) two members of their classy knowledgeable fanbase delayed the game by running out on the field. Sweet.

On LaRussa, is it is coincidence that he's around in Oakland and STL when lots of players are doing lots of steroids and also somehow magically gets old washed up players to perform surprisingly well?

I hate having Lopez batting 5th. There is just no power in that spot in the lineup, and that is a prime RBI spot. Switch Hart and Lopez, even if Hart doesn't like it. He is the third biggest power threat in the lineup and should not be batting leadoff.

I agree with you that it sucks having Lopez with no power in the 5 hole, but I do not want Hart there at all. Yes he has power and yes he is doing well right now, but he is absolutely horrible when in the 5 hole. Why? Who knows. I would rather get some production out of him in the lead off spot than nothing in the 5 spot.

I like this quote from the same guy with the gems above

I didn't ask about the Rays winning the wild card, I asked about the

Brewers winning the central. Has never happened. Same as the Rays

winning the East, has never happened...

Oh really??? They also won it in 2010.

Bleah, I winced as I typed in the Classies' starting lineup. I'm reaching for hand sanitizer next.

So the fans on the field last night are known to be STL fans rather than classless Cubthugs?

Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

Cards lineup is solid top to bottom. Ours not so much...need Greinke to be sharp.

I sure hope Furcal is going to strugle, because if he returns to his old form, the Cardinals then have 5 legit All-Stars in Furcal, Pujols, Holliday, Berkman & Molina to the Brewers (at present) 2 in Braun & Fielder

ESPN to its credit did not show them. But I'll go with the odds.

How is it that Hairston can't be in the starting lineup when he is a better baseball player than Betancourt, McGehee, and Lopez? I'm beginning to not like Roenicke a whole lot. Is he confused and thinks that Hairston is a young player?

At this point I don't think luck has anything to do with it. They have the chemistry down.

I haven't had butterflies before a Brewers game since late in 2008. It's a pretty cool feeling, although I'm wondering if I should get myself checked out as I'm only sitting on my couch!

I kind of feel like a jerk that I don't have any Brewers gear. I'm going to be an extra in a movie tomorrow and I wish I could get the Brewers some time on the big screen (I know the Brewers got plenty of screen time in Mr. 3000, but still).
