7-12, 4.71

Lilly put aside some of his season-long struggles with home runs and holding runners on by tossing two of his best starts this year in August. He has allowed just three runs in 14 innings this month.

Do your thing Wolf! Am I way off on this.....Hasn't Wolf been really solid against his old mates? I did not look this up, just going on memory..which fails me often.

It's incredibly annoying that Wolf seems to almost always line up with another LHP on the mound. I don't have a problem with Kottaras starting for Wolf, but it just never seems to work out right. The other 3 starters in this series will be RHP, but Kottaras starts against the lefty. Would be really nice if Wolf and Lucroy could just figure it out.

Other than that, pretty much the lineup every expected against a LHP. Get healthy Rickie, that lineup would look so much better with you in it and not Wilson.

i am VERY rarely, if EVER, joining the chorus about lineup complaints.

but this one just begged me to jump in... like a guy in the marching band fell over and the director grabbed me from the sideline and shoved a tuba in my mouth to take his place is how reluctant a position in which I find myself.

saying you want to load up a righty heavy line-up against Lilly but going with Kottaras instead is definite double speak. you can't have it both ways.

should I just shut my trap because Wolf has been so good lately [3.31 ERA (oh please don't slaughter me for mentioning ERA it's all I had time for!) in his last 6] and Georgie makes him so happy? Quantify Lucroy stats vs lefty minus (Kottaras stats vs lefty) multiplied by the potential "hey-I'm-catching-a-great-game" performance premium and compare that to the advantage achieved by Wolf pitching from his happy place instead of the grumpy, dirt kicking mound, cursing into his glove Wolf? get to work on that latter metric Bill James.

I suppose I can live with this; oh man I got the fever in a bad way!

Ah yes, Wolf being being selfish yet again results in Kottaras getting a start against a lefty. Bah.

Tonight will be my fifth time tailgating at a game, but the first time it will be both A) above 60 degrees, and B) not raining.

I mean, it's about giving your team the best chance to win every night. Kottaras against a LHP doesn't do that. Now who knows if Wolf would have the same success with Lucroy or not, and that's a different argument that's hard to judge obviously, but from a pure lineup standpoint, Kottaras should start against a RHP when Lucroy needs a day off.

I'm certain I'm in the minority, but I actually like this lineup a lot. Would it look better with Lucroy? Yes. But it seems RR got this one mostly right. It helps seeing JHJ in there.

Wilson is in because of something outside of RR's control, as is Kottaras. I really think that's just a Wolf thing, and can you really blame RR for not forcing things with the way it's been going?

Go Crew! Just. Keep. Winning.

I like Wilson starting here. I really hope the offense picks up though. Look for Wilson to have a hot night.

Wow, that's one of the best team defensive plays I've ever seen.
This is Jack Burton in the Pork Chop Express, and I'm talkin' to whoever's listenin' out there.

Those get you out of a jam real quick, although ironically enough after all the years of Ueck making that joke he didn't say it when they actually pulled it off.

Funny, how one of great defensive plays of the year is done by Betancourt and Fielder, who are constantly barraged for their poor defense. So much for defensive metrics.

AWESOME!

I can't believe they got that off when Wilson's flip was a touch high. I'm not taking away from what Wilson did (it was a great play), but usually if that flip isn't perfect you have no chance at three. Does this pass up Yuni's BTB flip as the play of the year? I think so.

Edit: I only saw the play out of the corner of my eye at first, so I didn't see that Kemp was still on second and tried to go home. I was wondering how in the heck Kemp took that long to get from third to home!
