Is a happy Plush a more productive Plush? One would have to think so...

So the Brewers have a CF platoon for $4.35 million.

Combining the stats on bref.com that are listed as only when they played CF, you have a CF'er who hit .272/.314/.404, with 11hr, 87runs, 25 doubles, 8 triples, and 19/24 in SB. That's over 628 plate appearances and 561 ABs.

Add in some mighty fine defense and I'm OK with that.

Exactly, and Gomez was injured during a portion of that too. If he would have been healthy all year it would have meant less AB's for Morgan versus lefties and likely more slugging with Gomez's increase in power.

The question is roles if Aoki signs, and even more so in 2013 when Gindl and Schafer should be ready. We will have 4 LH bats that profile as fringe MLB starting outfielders. How does this all play out?

Here is the Gomez + Morgan line if you only use their better splits (CarGo vs LHP and Plush vs RHP)

477 PA, .308/.356/.464/.819 which would be good for about a 120 OPS+ plus the average to above average defense from Morgan and best defense in the league from Gomez.

If used correctly that would give us one of the best "CF" in the game. That also does not take into account that they both are pretty good baserunners as well.

It just demonstrates what an awesome value platooning is. It's still a major inefficiency in the market.

That's only partly true. It's only good value depending on the salaries involved and it's certainly not something you can do with every position on the field. It's a tool in which you need to pick your spots because it's no easy task to acquire 2 complimentary players. Usually one half of the platoon is woefully deficient at something like defense, which brings the overall value down. However in the case of Gomez and Morgan it works out wonderfully.

Outfield is a good place to platoon because of the large pool of players you can draw from. CF is tougher though. Gomez is deficient in one area, he is a really bad hitter.

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.

Can't platoon more than 1 or 2 positions. But it's always worth it to platoon 1 or 2 positions.
I tried to log in on my iPad. Turns out it was an etch-a-sketch and I don't own an iPad. Also, I'm out of vodka.
