Is there a hotter bullpen in baseball right now?

Posted
With our starting pitchers mostly not going late into games in our last 4 wins, our bullpen has been great. Gallardo saved Sheets on Saturday. Turnbow and Cordero are getting the job done. Villy performs magic with the bases loaded tonight. How many more games can our bullpen bail us out? Hopefully Parra and Balfour pitch up to their expectations.

For those who haven't noticed, over his last 11 appearances Shouse has thrown 11.1 innings, given up 4 hits, 2 walks, and one unearned run, and now over the course of the season has a 2.59 ERA and 1.11 WHIP. Those who called for his ousting were a bit premature; I think it is a result of getting regular work instead of being used just as a LOOGY.

If Parra and Balfour pitch well, we are looking at having one of the best bullpens in the league for the stretch run. The question is will the bullpen burn out if we have to keep using them like we have?

Losing Sheets isn't going to help. We all know that these things ebb and flow. The next road trip will be another tell tale sign of how good the pen is. The team as a whole has done fantastic at home. Let's see them do this on the road, too.

Maybe the Crew should look at getting another top-notched pitcher. Ahhh... but that is for another forum http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
