On a whim when he was first called up I started calling Juan Perez "3TO Juan". I am pretty sure I'm onto something. Unfortunately, the two outcomes a pitcher doesn't want have been prevalent this inning.

When you look at the runs given up in the first 4 games of this homestand, and then factor in the offensive prowess of the competition, there is nothing that you can even really feel remotely confident about with this team right now. LA was a mirage.

Look at that lineup and who is supposed to bat lead off or 2nd? Most of the team can't hit their way out of of a wet paper bag, everyone can't bat 8th.

Gomez should not have even been on the field. Hart leading off with Green #2 would have been a much much better choice. Gomez should only face RHP late in games when he is in for defense.

 

Morgan hits RHP very well and plays decent defense. Gomez is not a good hitter and almost all his value is in his glove. If Morgan could hit LHP at all he should be a full time player. Gomez is a defensive specialist who should only start if your starter is bad against LHP. Unless Morgan is hurt, Gomez should never p[lay against RHP and should never hit in the top of the lineup.

Morgan has been terrible this year and has been bad against Dempster. I'm not going to get to worked up or come up with silly nicknames over starting a guy who is an elite defender in what one would think would be a low scoring pitcher's duel.
