The Brewers announced that they claimed right-hander Arcenio Leon off of waivers from the Astros.

Leon spent the 2012 season pitching in relief for Houston's Double-A affiliate. The 26-year-old appeared in 44 games, posting a 4.38 ERA with 8.2 K/9 and 4.7 BB/9 in 63 2/3 innings. He has had trouble limiting walks in eight seasons as a professional, as his career rate of 5.2 BB/9 indicates.

looks like leon had his contract purchased by the astros in the 2010-2011 offseason. he should have one minor league option remaining in 2013.

the major league roster is now at 33.

So basically a guy whose minor league numbers mirror Loe's major league numbers vs. RH batters. Other than maybe saving a little bit of money doesn't look like much of switch unless they are just trying to clear room on the 25 man roster.

You know, if he somehow makes the team, when he comes in from the bullpen, everyone can start waving the fists and doing the old "woo, woo, woo" from the Arsenio Hall show. Yeah, different spelling....but maybe that's where they were going? No clue.

I'm fishing for something here... maybe one of the scouts noticed a mechanical flaw they think they can fix??

4.7 BB/9 is pretty horrible. I think we'd need to get Lucroy a net to catch this guy.

Unless he takes up a 40man spot. Then it makes no sense.

in claiming him off waivers, the player remains on the major league 40-man roster, albeit the 40-man roster of a different team.

Maybe one of the coaches think they can fix him.

They should have been concentrating on Axford, Veras, and Henderson and if they were then the have no hope of fixing Leon. Bullpen churn......

I have no problem with them taking a shot on a guy like this. Not sure if I dig taking the Astros' rejects, and it's a little perplexing why a 26 year old not named Eric Arnett was in AA, but Melvin and his staff have had some success picking guys like this up.
