Random thoughts that are pointless and too dumb to say anywhere else thread: 2009 (May – Dec.)

For my halloween costume, I need the cheapest stethoscope I can find. Anyone know of any stores in the Milwaukee area where I could procure one for ~$10? Anyone have a used one they want to sell? Or rent for one night!?

Walgreens has a blood pressure test kit that comes with a stethoscope for $17. I checked Walmart, Osco, and the large pharmacy inside my local Pick n Save and none of them carried stethoscopes. Don't want to order online and risk it not getting here by Saturday.

Try Bartz's or Halloween Express (like the big pumpkin at State Fair Park. There's probably some temp costume stores in the malls, too.

EDIT: I almost forgot - American Science and Surplus on Oklahoma might have something like that.

ESPN Classic showed Game 6 of the 1993 World Series tonight. I literally gasped when I got a visual reminder of what Mitch Williams' uber-mullet looked like then.

Dude's trying to hide a squirrel under his cap? It's not working; I can see the tail!

On a less horrifying point, I was pleasantly surprised, then wistful, when I heard the relatively understated call of Joe Carter's home run. Imagine if that had been Joe Buck. Oops, back to horrifying.

Why didn't I think of that!? It's literally two minutes from my work. 5 dollars and 95 cents later I have the final piece to my Doogie Howser costume. Thanks Hoser!

As I rode the bus home tonight, what came up on my iPod but "Your Love." It took all I could muster not to break out in song on the Metro.

The bat allegedly survived so now Manu has to get rabies shots.

There is a Citgo across the street from a Citgo at 60th & Hampton on Milwaukee's north side. I wonder which one was there first.
There's a similar situation in Madison on Mineral Point Road. There is a PDQ on either side of the road about 1/2 block apart. I thought I heard that they built the second location because a competitor was looking at the site.

I don't know what's more amazing about that video, the fact that he swatted it out of the air or the fact that he just casually picked it up with his bare hands. Then handed it to another guy who again, just casually took it with his bare hands!

Does there need to be a full beverage service on every flight? Went to Orlando over the Halloween weekend. Had a conecting flight in Atlanta. Atlanta to Orlando is a little over an hour, but yet they still served beverages. Seems like a bit of a waste to me. I would rather they save money, not serve beverages (except maybe water) on flights less than 2 hours and use those savings to lower fees.

15 years ago, on flights to and from Mpls/Chicago, the attendants would push the cart up front when the plane was still at a 45 degree angle.

Also, if you want liquor on a plane, just dig around in your pockets a while trying to come up with $3, or whatever those mini bottles are. I saw them tell a dozen people to never mind if they dug for more than a few seconds.

I have always wondered about the 2 PDQ's. I've been partial to the southern one, although usually when I'm passiing through Mad Town I'll stop at the one thats on the right side of me so I don't have to cross traffic

PDQ also has two stations across from each other on Fish Hatchery Road, just north of the Beltline. Although burniebrewer's theory is plausible, I always figured it was more to accommodate drivers who, like stalton, want to stop there but don't want to cross traffic. At these Fish Hatch and Mineral Point locations, 'not wanting to cross traffic' is no excuse to bypass the PDQ.

When the 2nd PDQ was opened, there wasn't much development that far down Mineral Point Road. Target and all of Junction Road were only a developer's dream at that point. If I recall, there was nothing but a bar on that corner and you were on your way out of the city, so it shouldn't have been a very big deal at that time to cross traffic because there wasn't much coming into Madison.

Either way, it's quite convenient nowadays.

Talking about the PDQ across from the PDQ reminds me of the Lewis Black sketch where you know you are in h-e-double hockey sticks when there is a Starbucks across the street from a Starbucks. Good comedian, IMO

I'm all for being lazy, but I don't think I've ever thought, "Man, I would love to go to *fill in the blank* but I'd have to cross a semi busy street, so I don't think I'll go. I hope they build the same exact *fill in the blank* on this side of the road." For as convenient as it is, aren't they taking business from their own station when they build so close to each other.

Every time the UW shows Badger basketball player Rob Wilson's face on the Kohl Center videoboard, I think of Smoove B from The Onion. I don't know why.

HA! Funny. . .because whenever I see a pic of Rich Harden, I always think of Jim Anchower. . .

Well, if the Brewers sign Harden, I shall hope to see JimH5 change his avatar, even just for a day, to the Jim Anchower photo.

It's been a long time since I rapped at ya...

So here is a picture in the J/S this morning of Gov. Doyle signing the child care reform bill. I'm hoping that someone in the know can tell me why so many pens are necessary. I'm guessing that there are multiple places that he needs to sign and that each time he signs he uses a different pen and hands a pen to someone there as a "momento". Is this correct?
