What's bugging you? (2014)

The NFL season starts way too early. It needs to be pushed back at least a month so those freezing February and early March Sundays can be spent watching football and the beautiful, warm September Sundays can be spent outside or watching the Brewers.

Who cares about the Brewers at this point.

^^^^ THIS

I have tickets to the Marlins game this week, and the only reason I'm going is because my wife doesn't think she's ever seen the Marlins before. I'm done with this season, thank god the Packers are here so I can save my sanity.

Am I on the correct site? This is the Brewerfan site...right?

General lack of understanding of the difference between "CST" and "CDT", "EST" and "EDT", etc. You can generally figure out what people mean even when they use the incorrect acronym, but it just bothers me that many people don't seem to understand the distinction. I don't remember ever learning the distinction in school so maybe that is part of the problem.

I admit I always forget which is proper, so I just use "CT", "ET", etc. when needed.

What Patrick says is the simplest way to remember. The exception in the lower 48 states would be the majority of Arizona, which would be MST (Mountain Standard Time) all year.

When you can use the two-letter designations, ET, CT, etc. is generally simpler, avoids errors, and avoids the need to make changes to advertising material twice a year. You're probably stuck with adding the "D" or "S" when referring to Mountain Time, though. And since both MST and MDT would be in use simultaneously, I think it'd be pretty important to get it right.

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.

What has to be annoying is that even though your clocks don't change, your time relative to every state except Hawaii changes twice a year.

I really wish we would observe Day lights savings. Its really annoying that we don't

Yeah..the first time we went to Spring Training (13 or 14 years ago?) we arrived on the weekend that DST begins. We thought great, an extra hour of daylight and pool time during our vacation! Then...quickly realized that DST was not observed in AZ...bummer!

I wish we would do away completely with DST, but that's just my opinion.

Why? You don't enjoy that extra hour of daylight in the warm summer months? Do you work 2nd shift?

I read a couple of days ago that Mel Brooks just got honored on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. How did it take this long for that? Seems like there are a lot lesser known stars that have gotten this honor a lot sooner in their careers.

I like the extra hour of light in the evening, but I could see Daylight Saving Time being a drag for an early riser.

How far east or west you're located within your time zone could factor into your opinion. Milwaukee is in the far eastern part of the Central time zone. Sunrises and sunsets are significantly earlier than they'd be in the western part of the time zone.

Mel Brooks actually had his handprints and footprints placed outside of the theater currently known as the TCL Chinese Theatre. His star was added to the Walk of Fame in 2010. I think it's fair to argue that both honors came later than they could have.

I think it's also fair to argue that Brooks should have an additional Walk of Fame star for television. A number of performers are honored on the Walk more than once. Lucille Ball has two stars (motion pictures and television). And George Burns has three (live performance, motion pictures, television).

another thing that bugs me are coworkers who refuse to work yet will never get fired for it. I work with two high-school kids who probably don't put in 10 minutes of work over an eight hour shift (no exaggeration). they just sit around, go hide, take naps or just wander around. I'm kinda-sorta higher up, but I've reached the point I refuse to speak to them because I'll end up saying something that would get me fired.

It drives me crazy when I buy an energy drink off the shelf with other things and the cashier bags everything else but sets the energy drink on the counter. Seriously, what kind of sick weirdo drinks warm energy drinks?

They are trained to do this. Usually they will ask if you want it right away, but people buying a single package beverage almost always mean to drink it soon.

The best idea would be to ask if the drink, candy bar, etc. should be bagged.

At my current job we have a messenger program that everyone uses to communicate instead of using the expensive phone. The thing that bothers me is that everyone calls it a ping when you receive a message or when they want you to send a message to them. Why do they call this a ping I just don't get it and it is just bugging me to death right now.

Ping me my supervisor says ping me the AVP says and finally the VP says email me or message me. At least I have one person who is still sane in the office so at least I have that going for me......

As a systems admin, I can attest that ping is still used quite extensively.

A ping is simply a small packet of info that is sent from one device to another to see if the second device responds over that network. The term is stolen from submarines. "One ping only."

Posted
I still hear that term occasionally as well. Many times it's when an IT person is trying to resolve Internet connectivity issues and states they will try to "ping my computer". However, I do also hear it used in place of someone sending me an email or text. Doesn't bother me. I just view it as different way of saying something, just like when someone says "Hey, give me a buzz sometime", meaning "call me some time".

I use/hear "ping me" fairly often just as an informal way of saying "contact me by whichever method is appropriate". Which I guess can lead to a "what's bugging you?" rant on those who choose an inappropriate medium of communication :laughing One of the pet peeves at work: when someone has to knock on your closed door to come in and tell a pointless story, someone else calls without warning and drags the dialogue on for a half hour instead of sending a meeting invite...not too bad when another person writes up a book of an e-mail, since they only wasted their own time when you make them regurgitate it in person :tongue

Monday is "Wear a Blue Shirt to signify that you're anti-bullying" day.

Aren't we being bullied into wearing a blue shirt? What if I don't want to wear a blue shirt? Can't I wear whatever I want and still be anti-bullying?

To those who came up with this idea, and especially those who are forcing it upon school kids, you can eat it.
