@CraigMinervini

#Giancarlo in good spirits, saying he was uplifted by his mates. Dental work on 3 teeth in Miami. Fractures will heal, no surgery expected.

That was a tough break last night for the guy, and Miami.

Too soon.

Too soon for what, Logan?

I'm guessing he thinks you made a pun there.

I didn't.

Given the situation, this news is about as good as can be hoped for. Hopefully this won't have any lasting effects on his career. Or on Fiers career for that matter. If there's ever a time to be glad Fires doesn't throw in the upper 90's, this is it.

I worry about Stanton because of Tony Conigliaro, Dickie Thon, etc. It's great to hear that medically he's doing well.

I worry about Mike Fiers because he seems like a very emotional guy, which is a quality I like in people, but it may make this tough for him to get over. Also, this is what he relies on: moving the ball around and fooling people. I mean, who's ever gotten leveled by an 88 mph fastball? When has a batter (let alone a two-batter tandem) ever struck out swinging on consecutive HBPs? I'm not sure any other pitcher could do that. Every pitching approach has a worst-case scenario. If Fiers has that constantly in his head, he won't be able to do what he does.

Rickie was able to bounce back after getting hit IIRC, pretty quickly. Hopefully Stanton will as well. I don't know where else to put this but apparently Jon Heyman from CBS really got into Fiers over twitter calling out to be a real unremorseful jerk. Heyman claimed that Fiers was only upset about the HBP until after the game. I know that writers and "experts" are going to inject their own biases but how can somebody legitimately watch the videos and not see Fier's distress after the first HBP.

someone should smack some sense into heyman. fiers was pissed off about the pitch pretty much instantly. i'm sure that idiot didn't watch the game. what a joke to say that fiers was faking his remorse. straight up BS. have never seen fiers lose his cool like that.

Jon Heyman has no credibility in my book. He is, and has always been, a stooge for Scott Boras. The man knows no shame.

Evidently while in college Lucroy got hit in the head so bad he blacked out. He had to have surgery in his temple to stop the bleeding!

Conigliaro and Thon got hit more up around they eye and had recurring vision problems, probably with concussions too. While facial fractures and dental work are plenty serious, they will heal. In Congilario's day, there were no earflaps on the helmets either.

I think Fiers will be okay. Actually the unfairness of the fine might work to his benefit psychologically.

Link and a warning would have been appreciated.

Done.

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.
