People can rip on the old man "back in my day" rhetoric of guys like Goose Gossage all they want, but those guys pitched 3 inning saves and did it multiple days in row and made a fraction of what the current players are making.

Maybe I missed something and there is a better reason..but Jeffress can't pitch 3 days in a row? Seriously?

Even if Thornburg blows it, I'll agree with CC's call on this one. Too many times over the years have I seen us pay the price for showing a late reliever or closer to the same team 3 days in a row.

HECK YES!!!! Brewers win!!! Good day boys, good day!
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

A little shaky to begin, but TT calmed down and nailed it down. That FB to the warning track was for the drama. Give the Cubbies hope and crush it again. :)

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."

I wish we'd bring back the days of the multi-inning reliever, including the guy who hopefully finishes out games. But in the olden days (pre-1990 or so), you'd need a second pitcher picking up saves. Good teams tended to have two relievers with double-digit save totals.

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.

They did it walking uphill to and from the park in the snow too.

I think it was more that he had pitched 5 out of 6 days.

Coshun just mispronounced Nieuwenhuis.

Thornburg exuded calmness during his post-game interview, getting through it with cliches and a bit of humor.

Certainly. Point being, I was all for Thornburg pitching the 9th just based upon the last 2 days.

Could have been a sweep had Sedar not held Carter at 3rd in the 12th last night, but I'll take 2 of the 3 from the almighty (in their minds) Cubs!

Or set up the double play in 9th.

That was it. Counsell said that would have been a tall order "even for Frankie Rodriquez."
