Saw Furiosa yesterday. It was good - not great. If you like the Mad Max world, you'll like it.

That's what I had heard.  I really enjoyed the latest Mad Max, so I was hopeful this would be good.  I think I will just wait until it can be streamed instead of going to the theater for it.

The move had some awesome stuff. And I think it plays in the theater really, really well. Chris Hemsworth was an absolute riot as the bad guy. Just wonderful. I think the story just lost some focus at times. Not terrible - but not great. I also love the franchise - so I have high expectations.

I'm in on Furiosa as not being as good as Fury Road but still being among the better of the year to date. It's a more contemplative film which slows down to consider revenge as a concept in between the setpieces and worldbuilding. Probably could have stood to pare about 15 minutes but I felt really good coming out of it and mulling it around days later. I'd probably put it third in my rankings of the franchise behind Fury Road and the Road Warrior. Not too shabby.

Went and saw The Watchers.

Meh.

Not a bad movie, but not really that good either.

The NEW Bad Boys was great!  Just a great summer movie!  Nothing new, just pure entertainment!

BIKERIDERS was awesome!  Really liked this one, but I typically like period movies with interesting subject matter.  This is one I will purchase on dvd when it comes out!

Hit Man on Netflix was enjoyable. Glenn Powell is quite likable and shows a bit of range playing several "characters". It was refreshing watching a 90-minute, traditional 3-act structure film. Made it a wee bit predictable but that was ok.

Beverly Hills Cop:  Axel F was fun.

Was just coming to say this. Had just the right amount of new and nostaglia and Eddie Murphy is great. If you had any liking of the originals, this is a must watch.

I'll come in and also vouch for Bad Boys and Beverly Hills Cop - Axel F.  Bad Boys - Ride or Die  is easily my favorite of the series and had many scenes where I was laughing out loud.

That's pretty much it for me.

My son said the same thing - but he did say that after watching Fury Road with his wife, he appreciated Furiosa more.

Deadpool and Wolverine:  Not a movie to take your 5-year-old to.  If you are into the transition of the Fox Marvel characters to the MCU, it is a good movie.  A lot of humor, but a lot of sexual innuendo.

I enjoyed it.

I've been remiss in not mentioning that the new 4K Restoration of Seven Samurai was playing in Milwaukee. Magnificent as expected.

Deadpool and Wolverine. Had some funny one liners but the story was weak and there was yet again about 20-30 minutes of pointless content.

Went with three other people and everyone agreed that most modern movies don't edit enough.

That is every Deadpool movie so far.  It is not a serious movie and the movie doesn't take itself all that serious either.

Probably could have cut some time off of the movie but that is current Hollywood right now.  You either get garbage or flaming garbage take it or leave it.  It is funny that Godzilla Minus One was better than the Hollywood Godzilla and Kong movie.

It is kind of like video games right now the AAA producers are producing nothing but garbage while all of the indie developers are making far better games.  The same with movies the major studios are just releasing garbage after garbage but getting praised for it by the media critics while the YouTube critics and movie goers tear them a new one.  It is almost like the media critics are afraid they will get black listed and won't be able to get early premiere tickets if they don't agree with the garbage.

Also how are these movies even getting by the test audiences?  Especially the Disney garbage.  Are they just picking people who will agree with them?  Seems weird that we went from fairly decent story telling and character building to brain damaged drivel in only a few years.

I'm so done with superhero movies.  Couldn't keep up, the ones I did see were declining in quality, so I gave up.

Never saw an X-Men movie, but have seen the Deadpool movies, but since I know nothing about the X-Men, I won't be seeing this one.

You don't need to know anything in a Deadpool movie.  There isn't much lore behind him so not much to screw up unless you do something dumb like what Fox did.  This movie is mostly about making fun of the Marvel movies and movies in general.

Again this movie is barely serious at all.  Just an action comedy movie.  The first Deadpool is still the best one but this was better than the 2nd one.  Some of the jokes were good but a lot of ones that fall flat.  If you want characters and character development this is not the movie for you.  This is just a dumb movie making fun of itself and everything Marvel has done for the past 2-3 years.

I've never been big into superhero movies, but Deadpool is always just gold. I think the dark, over-the-top violence and dark humor, is delivered perfectly by Reynolds.

I heard Tarantino thinks we are in an era like the late 80's where you could predict everything that was going to happen in every action movie because they all followed the same plot points. I am hopeful someone comes along and makes something unique and interesting that changes the paradigm.

I believe this is very close to the truth.  If you follow the awards shows over the years, there is more focus on things that are offscreen than the story that is on screen.  So, if you want good reviews, then you keep in your California test markets -- they will agree with your agenda.

My wife and I went to see Sound of Hope: The Story of Possum Trot and enjoyed it.  This is based on a real town in the 90s where 22 families adopted 77 children out of the foster care system.  They show a lot of the hard and dark times in adoption as well as the blessings that come.

Perhaps less impactful to those that haven't been touched by adoption as it isn't entertainment, but a real-life story.

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."
