The thing with Thames is how much do you believe April, because from May 1 - now his line is:

.218/.332/.439

Yes that is removing his best month by far, but if you think his best month next season will be a lot more human than this April he seems more like a .230/.340/.450 guy

Good on the umps for not reviewing that at Hurdl's request. Baseball's replay system is a joke. We were screwed out of a win a year or two ago because Brian Price talked the umpires into reviewing something when he didn't have a challenge left.

We were not screwed out of a win. It was well within the rules and something done most of the time in those situations.

That being said I hate the rule where they can ask when they don't have a challenge.

It's a terrible rule. I'd like to have some of what the competition committee was having when they came up with that brainchild.

We're tied, and it's past the second inning. Chances of us scoring any more runs aren't great.

I indersrand nothing about this lineup:

-sitting Arcia

-Villar leading off after they finally got a decent option

-Villar in CF

-and I still don't love Thames 2nd in order

Arcia was in the original lineup, scratched due to back spasms IIRC. Supposedly Villar is playing CF to get as many lefty bats in there as possible against Nova. Doesn't seem to be working all that well though. Nor do I see why he has to bat leadoff when he's in the lineup.

Curious about Thames though, where would you bat him?

I figured, but hoped to be wrong, about Arica being hurt.

Personally I'd like to see Thames moved down to get some more runners on for our HR leader.

-Walker

-Braun

-Shaw

-Santana

-Thames

1 great month and a whole lot of left-handed Chris Carter

To be fair to Thames, it was possibly the best month in Brewers history. His 1.276 was the highest OPS in any month in Brewers history among players with at least 20 games in a month.

The leaders are

Rk Player Split Year G OPS PA HR BA OBP SLG
1 Eric Thames April/March 2017 24 1.276 103 11 .345 .466 .810
2 Geoff Jenkins Sept/Oct 2006 25 1.264 79 7 .409 .506 .758
3 Tyler Houston June 2002 20 1.254 76 3 .464 .500 .754
4 Prince Fielder June 2011 27 1.238 110 10 .337 .491 .747
5 Greg Vaughn June 1996 26 1.230 113 12 .340 .442 .787
6 Rob Deer April/March 1987 20 1.215 90 9 .338 .444 .770

I believe that April was a fluke. 770 OPS from a first baseman isn't very good at all. Thames isn't good.

HUGE!

Great way to show the Villar start was dumb

Did Villar not do his job? Oh wait, he did. Complain to complain.

"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

Because he homered off the guy who didn't pitch the first 6 innings? Your comment would make some sense if he came in and hit it off Nova.

Swarzak unavailable still? Or perhaps Knebel is; and saving Swarzak for the 9th? Can't see why Barnes would be in if both of them are available.

To answer my own question: Counsell giving him an extra day off to recover from the neck stiffness.

1-4 infield deflected single.... caught one easy play.

That's his job? 2 more K swinging at ball 3 on his first freaking ab... not even close... tgats his job. Dude had 4 good games... broxton has been decent since coming up... but ok... 4 games... a position he doesn't play... contending team... villar really murdered nova.

Great decision! Since it didn't ruin anything... GREAT JOB!

Last I checked they're winning and he played a big role in getting that lead.

Definitive list:

GOOD - Braun, Santana.

PROBABLY GOOD - Shaw(been only one year), Arcia, Aguilar, Pina.

PROBABLY NOT BAD - Broxton, Perez.

BAD - Villar, thames (for position), Sogard.

Reds go up! Cubs will probably come back though, they always come back

Reds have walked the first 2 hitters in the bottom of the 8th...

Of course. Those Cubs, just put together such good ABs (sarcastic bitterness).

Seems like after the "team meeting" they decided to start over and forget the past losing streak. Then they put out the April lineup Villar-Thames-Braun-Shaw-Santana. Since that time Villar has been good.

Standards for villar have hit rock bottom!

Villar last week: .389/.450/.667/1.117

Broxton last week: .154/.267/.385/.651

Villar last two weeks: .308/.357/.500/.857

Broxton last two weeks: .250/.341/.472/.814

Yeah. Rock bottom :rolleyes . Add in the fact there was a righty on the mound and Counsell was looking for more offense. And most likely Villar is just as good defensively if given the innings in CF.

YESSSS. Reds hit Rizzo to load the bases, but escape with a K. 1-0 Reds heading to the 9th
