1. CF Hernan Perez ®

:laughing :laughing :laughing

Did Counsell lose a bet with Dave Roberts or something?

If Perez gets 5 at-bats tonight, what's the over/under on number of pitches he sees all night? I'm setting it at 12.

It's only for one game (hopefully) but not counting the pitcher the leadoff hitter has the lowest OBP and OPS of the starting lineup. Has to be the dumbest thing Counsell's done so far. I get trying to make things happen when you're not scoring runs but this is just stupid.

Basically a bullpen game where you know you are going deep into the bullpen to cover the innings. Please see more than 2 pitches guys.

Well he's on pace for 10 after his first AB.

Things you can do to try to 'make things happen' that are better options than having Perez lead off.

1) Bat the pitcher 8th.

2) Lead off Braun

3) Lead off Broxton

4) Lead off Shaw

5) Lead off Arcia

6) Start Aguilar and lead him off

7) Have Chase Anderson come into the on-deck circle when Braun is supposed to be on deck to intimidate the pitcher

8) Suicide squeeze

9) If a batter comes up with a runner on 3rd and 1 out, have him get down on all fours and start barking like a dog to see if you can sneak in the runner from 3rd in the confusion .

10) Bat Arcia cleanup

This list is not fully inclusive. Basically, anything besides batting Davies top 5.

So just how good is Bat Boy do we think? He was so awful the first two months each of the last 2 seasons and pitched like a #2 the rest of the year but watching him pitch it doesn't seem believable. Davies and Thames are two guys I just have no good read on how good they actually are.

Odds Chicken Strip throws a no hitter? Any lineup that features Perez at leadoff deserves to be no hit.

Considering his pitch limit is probably about 50 I'd put the odds under 30%.

Well then a team no hitter.

I just honestly want to know what Counsell was thinking. Did he expect Perez to magically morph into a patient table setter simply by being put in the leadoff spot?

Davies strikeout rate is abysmal this year, so I don't have much confidence in him being more than a 4 at best. I think ideally you get enough pitching to make him a swingman.

Thames has been replacement level since the beginning of May.

So for people who don't understand the broadcaster complaints. Bill just said Davies is keeping the ball down and that is why he is effective, this inning every single strike he threw was high. He literally is not keeping the ball down and is being effective anyway. He could not have said anything less truthful in this inning. He does this all the time and it frustrating as heck.

No reason to take Davies out..... Davies is 8th and if he gets two on, Knebel. This sort of crap bothers me too... why take him out when he is rolling? 94 pitches? Could easily get an inning or two!

Braun another failed chance at a run in scoring position.

Counsell lost some faith he had from me tonight with Perez leading off. Flat out stupid. Not one reasonable reason for it. Perez is not good.

"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.
