28.0 consecutive innings for brewers pitchers without issuing a walk.

however, the team has issued 514 free passes, sixth worst in the league and tenth worst in the majors.

april: 95 free passes

may: 90

june: 102

july: 83

august: 108

september thus far: 36 (fewest in the league, second only to cleveland in the majors)

definitely like the trend thus far. undoubtedly, the removal of matt garza (3.56 bb/9) and junior guerra (5.65 bb/9) from the rotation has helped keep the walks down.

Knebel and Hader seem to have improved their command significantly over the last month, with how often they are used that helps. I also can't remember that last time I saw Torres pitch, I believe he has a bad BB rate. The BB trend is definitely helping keep runs off the board.

Call me crazy but I was never a big fan of the last few years of relief pitching strategy of walking the first guy you face like 95% of the time. Glad that's not the case anymore.

It begins with the starting pitching. Anderson, Woodruff, Suter and Davies (and Nelson) are all under 2.7 BB/9 innings. Garza is 3.6, Guerra is 5.6.

The bullpen is another story. Swarzak is at 1.2 BB/9 innings, everyone else is over 3.7. But perhaps he's rubbing off on the rest of the bullpen.

aaron wilkerson took the streak to 30.0 innings before surrendering a walk. the team surrendered three walks last night--not great, but not horrible.

the brewers still lead the league for fewest free passes allowed in september. let's hope that trend continues.
