How much longer should I hold my breath? (trades)

It's 3:40, 40 minutes past the trade deadline any news involving the Brewers and trades hasn't come yet. Any idea when I can safely stop thinking that they might have pulled something off last-second? Or, should I just keep refreshing the page every 10 seconds?

I'd go until at least game time tonight...if you haven't heard anything by then...well, at least the Cubs and Cards didn't make any splashes either

One "late" trade just came thru:

Matt Morris to Pittsburgh. (Edit: Posted in Rumors for now)

So, it is still possible, though it seems unlikely at this point, that Melvin could have pulled something off.

Well there could be trades that were submitted that need Bud's stamp that could still be announced today -- plus there will still be trades, but they players will have to be exposed to waivers -- which won't affect players with really fat contracts.

Any trade has to have already been made, but not announced. Doug could keep quiet for hours, and the JS is not digging, I'm sure. However, it depends on the other team.

F.T. Joey, why wouldn't waiver deals include guys with fat contracts? those are exactly the kind of guys that can pass through waivers.

What he's saying is that players with fat contracts probably won't get picked up, so there isn't a big fear of them being exposed on the waiver wire.

I thought most teams pass almost every player they would contemplate trading through revocable waivers. Once they clear, they can be dealt.

Exactly -- but guys like Griffey Jr. will probably go through, and not get claimed, because teams won't want to take on their contracts -- I think we agree on this.

By this time, most activity has usually been announced, but there may be a few more deals that don't come across the wire until this evening. Sometimes the deal has been submitted but not announced for various reasons.

I wouldn't hold my breath, except for maybe a minor David Bell type deal.
