RHP Jay Jackson, 1 of top relievers in Japan past 3 years, is drawing interest from MLB teams. For Hiroshima last 3 seasons, had 2.10 ERA, 92 holds, 192 SO in 176 IP. (Was better than Ryan Brasier, now w/Red Sox, when teammates on 2017 Carp.) Also interest in returning to Japan.

This guy hasn't pitched in the majors since 2015, and only has logged 4.1 total MLB innings. Fangraphs has him as a 95/85 FB slider only guy in that limited work. It looks like he had some success in Japan over the last few years as a reliever.

Gotta love flyer signings. Gonna be tough to crack that bullpen off the bat, but if he pitches well in San Antonio, eventually an opportunity will open.

He seems like a guy that it'd be easy to dream on as being the next big Brewers bullpen success story. Hope it turns out that way, we could really use that.

I think, like miles mikolas, he learned how to really pitch in Japan. With the cubs he threw upper 90s, so maybe a little more in the tank.

I saw him pitch a perfect inning in Arizona. There wasn't any radar readings but he clearly showed a live arm but more impressive was his mound presence. If you didn't know better, you'd have figured he was a major league pitcher and not some fringy guy.

I saw him pitch in spring, at Camelback Ranch, versus the Dodgers.

 

He was 90-93 and mowed down some good hitters.

 

Note: Jackson and Houser were the two pitchers that surprisingly impressed me in spring. However, I think both are relievers moving forward .

Jay Jackson would another one to add to the David Stearns "hits" column when people are adding up those sorts of things.

The bulk of his production has come in mop up/low leverage duty, but he's been perfectly serviceable in that role. I would guess he survives the 40 man roster through the winter and gets a chance to win a spot in spring training. Looks like he might still have 2 options left too so no reason he couldn't wind up on the shuttle squad at worst next season.

 

He's almost certainly going to be on the WC roster and might be on a the NLDS roster should they get there.

jay jackson spent the majority of his time with san antonio on a minor league contract. he spent less than 20 days on optional assignment with san antonio, so he will enter 2020 with three options.

He's been really, really good at times and really, really bad at others. Ya, I'd like to have him back next year but I think he's just as likely to fully implode and be DFA'd as he is to be a valuable bullpen piece for a whole season.

I'd put Jackson on the roster over Black. He can be devastating against righties when he's on. Black seems like more of a wildcard right now.

More RHH’s than left, Roogy more important than Loogy. Black’s terrible high leverage outing vs St Louis late in that game hurts his chances.

One can always hope. As you can tell, I don't trust Albers. I would rather go with Davies or Black, if it came to it.

How does Jackson's contract supercede major league rules regarding FA? Jackson isn't even eligible for arbitration until 2022.
