2017 and 2018 July trade deadline results

If you look at the results of the last couple of years, you may consider standing pat. Swarzak really helped down the stretch in 2017, but Jeffress and Moose put up better stats the year after they were acquired. Last year the team was improved at the end of August, but the end of July was a bust. Villar probably outperformed Moose in August and September and Schoop was a disaster.

That has absolutely nothing to do with the players they may acquire this year. Absolutely no idea how any of that is relative to what they may do this year. They NEED to be buyers. Period.

Swarzak was incredible.

Moose was ok.

Schoop could not have been worse.

Gio was good

Cedeno was bad.

Granderson was great.

And this year’s additions will win the central.

No, Moose was ok at best. A .767 OPS for the Brewers in 2018 and was quite bad in the playoffs.

He has, of course, been much more than okay in 2019.

Moose had a walk off hit at a pivotal playoff game at Miller Park. That makes him better than “quite bad in the playoffs”. Lol

No, a .523 playoff OPS is quite bad, regardless of the result in a single AB.

If a player plays 10 games and hits a walk-off in one of those games but doesn't get a hit in the other 9 games was he better than "quite bad?" Moose was brutal in the playoffs last year. .200/.273/.250 with one unintentional walk in 44 plate appearances. To be fair pretty much everyone on the team was awful offensively in the playoffs, Moose, Cain, Yelich, Braun, Aguilar, Granderson. Moose was definitely the worst performer of anyone that played regularly though.

Schoop definitely could have been worse. He could have NOT hit a grand slam of Bumgarner and we end up losing that game.

Okay, perhaps that is grasping at straws, but since it was pretty much the only good memory of his Brewers stint . . . .
