I'll be content as long as the Pirates can get one from the Cubs. Anything beyond that is a bonus. That would probably mean Brewers fall a game back of the Cubs after this weekend...but we would have the schedule advantage from this point forward so overall that would be fine.

Ideally the Brewers win this weekend's series against the Cards and the Braves win their series against the Nats - that would basically set up the Brewers with a solid chance to wind up taking 1 of 3 available playoff berths to them (WC1, WC2, Division title) with a light remaining schedule and all their other competition playing each other. If the Brewers simply would play above 0.500 to round out the season following this weekend in this scenario, they're basically a lock for the postseason.

It is absolutely crazy how a week of no losses in September can change a team's outlook. The Brewers have basically gone from an afterthought in mid August to a team virtually in control of their own playoff destiny.

So for a week we had the ideal situation of putting pressure on the cubs either by playing them or by playing before them and winning. The cubs didn't respond too well and we've made up 5 games since last Friday

The cubs can now turn the tables by winning their games before we play this weekend. Lets see if we can handle it

Come on pirates do us a solid and win one damn game

Ive said they got to get to 88 wins to be a lock for the postseason. 10 wins in their last 16 games. That's doable. But you still need to play well. They have to win 2 games in everyone of their last five series to do that. it wont be easy. Now if they figure out a way to sweep another team, that changes things dramatically. Same as if they got swept

Need one game at the minimum this weekend

Based in remaining schedules of the competition and the cubs dropping 5 games in the standings since 88 wins seemed like a good barometer for wc2, I think the wc2 winner could wind up with as few as 86 wins, and there is a pretty strong chance of ties leading to play-in games.

Going to be fun to watch.

Here's my gut: The Cub starting pitching is damn near in free fall and who can trust Darvish? Baez done and Bryant ailing. They play .500 ball this month and will continue to. Brewers make the WC at least.

This late run you guys are on w/o Yelich has to have your guys believing. I fear the Cubs because they OWN us. I feel Cards/Brewers to be a toss-up.

We just lost a series to the worst team we're gonna face the rest of the way (Colorado)

Cubs remaining series' is mixed

As you know your schedule is most favorable, and you're hot

The Nationals are toast

It's amusing that Cub fans will be rooting for a Card win in our series but will fear a sweep by either team! ;) See what I mean?

Cubs off to a humorous start. With Reynolds on first in the top of the first, Reynolds takes off on a 3-2 pitch. The pitch is ball 4 but Contreras throws the ball into center field and Reynolds continues on to third. Then the CF throw back in gets away and Reynolds comes around to score.

So, a quick run for the Pirates on a windy day where it might take 10 to win.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

Pirates are almost halfway to that 10. 4 in the first with Lester over 30 pitches.

Pirates not likely to lead after 1. 2 HRs and a double and it’s 4-3 with just one out.

Projected final: Cubs 72, Pirates 36.

Well Castellanos just hit a 2 run homer.

edit: and now Contreras with a solo shot.

I can't believe how the ball carries at Wrigley Gum Park, there's just zero gravity there.

Wind is blowing out like 15-30MPH, and Wrigley Field's construction doesn't block the wind at all. Just about anything hit in the air will be a HR today.

Another 2 run HR.

Updated projected final: Cubs 120 (5 runs per out), Pirates 36 (4 runs per inning).

Man, when I said the Cubs were gonna tee off I didn't mean like this.

Brault has pitched well in 4 starts against the Brewers this year. He is after all a lefty. He hasn’t gone more than 5 innings in any of those starts and only gives up a run or two per start.

But, his record against the Brewers is 0-0, and the Brewers have won all 4 of the games he’s started.

A classic example of why W-L record against LH and RH starters may not be a good measure of the Brewers troubles against lefties.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

Wind is ripping out to right at Wrigley. Final really might be 12-10.

Or 12-4.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.
