Brewers claim Tim Lopes

tim lopes' rehab assignment (started 11 may) will have to end in the coming days if he continues to prove himself healthy. the club will have to activate him from the 60-day injured list (a 40-man spot is available), and then either option him, recall him, or designate him for assignment.

Maybe then the David Robertson experiment can end. We have Jake Hager now too.

noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.

I was hoping to open this thread to see "Tim Lopes removed from 40 man"....... but here we are. Oof. I can live with Reyes being on the 28 man roster. But Lopes as well. Aaaaargh.

A guy I wonder how he ever makes the 40. Just bring up Turang and give him an experience.
"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

What the Brewers presumably see in Lopes is a guy who can competently defend multiple positions, which is a perfectly reasonable skill set for a guy who is ostensibly like the 18th position player on the 40 man and has gotten nine PAs this year.

Dustin Peterson's definitely hit better than Lopes at AAA this year, but he's only played LF/1B. Stearns & company have repeatedly demonstrated they don't value defensively limited players unless they can really hit. Dustin's 276/351/439 (114 wRC+) line with a 10.3 BB% / 12.5 K% is certainly solid, but nothing really special for someone limited to LF/1B.

Someone else dealing with injury? CC wanting another body so he can pull a benching for defensive mistakes? I don't follow. Maile has done a nice job.

yesterday, tim lopes cleared outright waivers and remains in the organization. he will be eligible for minor league free agency after the conclusion of the world series.
