Reds might catch San Diego for that WC spot.

Jimmy Nelson requires elbow surgery and may be out of baseball til 2023. Hate to see it.

That stinks for him. Man wanted to see that guy succeed.

Adames, Tellez, and Escobar staying as hot as they have been might finally balance the karma scales of how bad that post trade swoon from Schoop was.

Oh, Twitter. And the Rockies, issuing a statement condemning a fan for a "slur" that turned out to be the name of their mascot, yelled as he is looking at said mascot. And a Brewers connection as it was originally accused of being yelled at Lewis Brinson.

Don't worry. The guy's life has already been ruined. Mission accomplished.

Fortunately I don't think he has yet even been ID'd and by he time that happens most will realize what happened. And the Rockies are definitely lucky he was not ID'd after issuing that statement. The teams have no good course of action. They either do this or wait to investigate and then get blasted for responding slowly.

That everyone just stood around not reacting was a very clear sign the initial report was off.

I can totally understand how a player on the field would hear what he said and think he said the bad thing but the video and audio evidence pretty much proves that's not what he said. But, of course, this is all just a coverup by the Rockies and the guy.

I watched the video. The dude was yelling at and waving at the mascot, and looking at the mascot, named Dinger.

With some accents I could totally get how someone could mistake that for the other word. Also sometimes our minds put words in our head especially from a distance where you can't fully make out what someone is saying so your brain interprets what you think they are saying.

There is a whole scientific study about how some people hear one word while someone else hears another. Plus English is a difficult dialect and accents makes it even worse.

The Cubs know the when you are the house, wining or losing does not matter, all that matters is the vig:

Eh, sportsbooks at stadiums and arenas will be commonplace in the next few years. There's already one open at Capital One Arena in DC and around half the states (more at this point, I think, but I'd have to check the exact numbers) have mobile betting.

NFL Cardinals are building one at their stadium

And coincidentally, DraftKings just bought Golden Nugget Online Gaming, owned by Houston Rockets' owner Tilman Fertitta, and said it will open a sportsbook at the Toyota Center once sports betting is legalized in Texas.

That entire Rockies fan thing was cringy. It seemed pretty obvious from the start he didn't say what people thought he said. You aren't screaming that around thousands of people these days and no one batting an eye. Then you actually watch the video and he clearly is referring to the mascot. I don't think he even looks at the field the entire video.

The MLBPA and Rockies comments were gross. They could have just said they were reviewing the situation and not throw the dude under the bus. It was a simple thing to get to the bottom of and took less than 24 hours. To release statements as if what happened was facts is garbage. They release generic statements all the time when a players gets a DUI or gets a domestic violence charge. If you can release a generic statement for that pretty sure this guy could have gotten a bit more than a few hours before they try to ruin his life.

I loosely saw the video a couple hours after it happened(did not see the specific person yelling until it was pointed out the next day) and it kinda sounded bad. It's best not to underestimate the actions of a potentially very drunk fan with hate in his heart. But common sense told me at first viewing he probably wasn't saying what it sounded like. First off, Brinson probably steps out and gets the umps involved as it was right there and very loud...if not him then the Marlins manager does. Also, I'd like to think anyone within a few rows of that guy would easily identify who said it and get involved very very quickly if it was actually what was thought at the time.

I expect the Rockies will change their mascot name very quickly. Not saying it's right or wrong, just what I'm expecting. The mascot name is just not worth another potential issues like this.

I highly recommend to actually watch the interview and not just read the article portion. The way the media is titling it and the blurbs make it seem like he is more skeptical than he really is. Though, he still doesn't really accept the explanation given. He still feels like it is debatable what he said. Though if he really watched that video 50+ times, especially after the explanation, and can't realize the fan was clearly not talking to/towards him he may need his eyes checked.

It would be a bit reactionary to change the name of the mascot, but then again, so was everyone calling the fan a racist.

Dinger barely sounds like what he was accused of saying and more importantly it is a common baseball word. To change it based off of this one incident would be incredibly stupid.

Some folks pronounce words like dinger with a hard "g" sound, like in the word "finger", to where I could see how it might be mistaken that way.

His take is a bit strange. It seems like he doesn't really want to accept the reality and is almost a bit skeptical still.

He says he keeps hearing 'the word'. If that is the case it is because that is what he wants to hear. If you watch it back and think 'Dinger' when the guy yells it is very obvious that is exactly what he was saying (or watch the video of him obviously yelling and waving towards the mascot). It was one of those annoying apologizes where he constantly said, "if that's what he said" then I am sorry for the backlash he is getting. No Brinson, that IS what he said. Many journalists, former players, etc. just ate their crow after finding out their reactionary take was horribly wrong...Brinson sorta just had to stall out at the one yard line though.

Yeah I don't know how anyone has that take after watching the video like twice. He's literally waving at the dinosaur. Does anyone honestly believe you could yell that at a baseball game and not have at least one person confront you or immediately flag down stadium staff? I know this is sensitive material but I find that 'take' from Brinson really irresponsible. He's needlessly stoking the fire. Just own your mistake.

The actual interview he comes off less skeptical than articles/headlines make him out to be, but he still came off as unwilling to truly accept what had happened. Considering many people still believe the guy said something bad, it is a real shame Brinson had to leave uncertainty in his comments when in reality there is none.
