The Timber Rattlers are down 3-1 in their series at home against South Bend, so need LHP Brandon Knarr (1.34 ERA, 0.89 WHIP, 10.7 K/9 in 40 1/3 innings) to come through with another terrific performance today. OF Carlos D. Rodriguez has started heating up (11-for-last-33; .905 OPS over last 40 plate appearances):

Some enticing low levels pitching across the board. Stiven Cruz takes the hill (or as auto-correct would have it: the ‘bill’) for his second start as well. Zavolas is back for start #2 in his Biloxi return. And, the ever reliable AAAA Josh Lindbolm will try to silence more Triple-A bats.

Wisconsin has jumped out to a 6-0 lead through two innings, including 5 hits with runners in scoring position. 2B Tyler Black has 3 stolen bases through 2 innings.

A Carolina win at home tonight would clinch the series over Down East. The Mudcats send fireball RHP Stiven Cruz to the mound for his 2nd start. Can he produce another 8K, 3 inning shutout? Yesterday’s hero RF Hendry Mendez (walk off grand slam) is batting cleanup:

LHP Brandon Knarr throws another 6 shutout innings tonight with 7 Ks. About one runner reached base each inning, but nearly all was ticky-tack (e.g. infield singles). Count on him being in Biloxi next week.

Timber Rattlers lead 7-0.

The AAA Sounds can clinch a series victory over Louisville with a win at home today. Veteran RHP Josh Lindblom (2.58 ERA, 0.99 WHIP, 8.0 K/9 in 38 1/3 innings) is set for his 8th long appearance of 2022. 23-year old C Mario Feliciano comes in with a 6-game hitting streak:

RHP Stiven Cruz faced his first real test, walking 2 and giving up a single to load the bases with 1 out in the 2nd inning.

But he deftly escaped the mini-jam by inducing 2 infield pop ups. Way to go!

This week's Biloxi-Mississippi series is tied 2-2 and the Shuckers send RHP Noah Zavolas to the mound for his 2nd start of 2022. C Jakson Reetz has homered in 6 of his last 7 games and is also riding an 8-game hitting streak:

1 - Gabe Holt - DH
2 - Joey Wiemer - CF
3 - Felix Valerio - 2B
4 - Thomas Dillard - 1B
5 - Jakson Reetz - C

Stiven Cruz tossed 4 scoreless innings, but that's likely all for him today as there's a rain delay in Zebulon. The Mudcats lead 2-0, with Hendry Mendez walking and scoring in the 2nd inning then knocking in Jackson Chourio with a single in the 3rd inning.

The K-Knarr man cometh. Me thinketh his time in Appleton may be ending soon. What an incredible season he's had on the Hill. Just Knarly Knarly stuff!

Of note, offensively, in the T-Rats contest is the continued hot streak and resurgence from Carlos Rodriguez (2-3, 2 rbi, 1 bb) and a nice rebound game after some quiet days at the plate for Tyler Black in the lead-off slot (3-5, 2 run). As a team, the T-Rats hit 7 of 18 with RISP. That'll win quite a few games. You love to see it after a couple quiet outings.

Any time I see Mendez and Chourio doing big things, I just smile. These are the two youngest men in Low-A. And, they are just dealing of late. It's a happy place.

Noah Zavolas hung a pitch 2 breaking ball right over the heart of the plate and Braves #1 prospect (also very good at baseball) Michael Harris II absolutely crushed it over the wall in dead center. Just a bomb. It's 2-1 Shuckers in the bottom half of the first.

Terence Doston mans the left field grass for his first ever start at Double-A (recently called up from the ACL Brewers) and let me tell you he is definitely a diminutive 5'10" 160. He took two fly balls routinely for two outs in the bottom half. He will be coming to the plate for his first ever Double-A AB.

Zavolas is pretty much pitching batting practice right now. He's hanging every off-speed pitch directly over the heart of the plate. Inning two sees a change-up blasted over the wall in left. Followed by a ripped double on a breaking ball over the wall in right center. Follwed by a fastball struck hard into right field. It's now 3-2 Braves.

Nothing would describe the current Shuckers season more than the failed pick-off and pickle between Thomas Dillard, Cam Devanney, and Noah Zavolas with no outs and Zavolas struggling mightily. The runner was dead-to-rights in the basepaths. Dillard rushes and launches his throw causing Devanney to leap awkwardly for the catch. Cam then rushes his throw and hits the runner on the helmet as the ball harmlessly trickles past first base. This runner then scored leaving on a 3-2 pitch and made it to third. The 2-0 lead is now a 5-2 deficit and we're still in inning two with only one out. Zavolas is really really struggling.

Noah's best inning since his return closes out the third. 2 strikeouts. A casual fly ball to CF for Wiemer. This is what we're hoping to see from Noah as he returns to the mound. We are on to the fourth inning and it is still 2-5 Braves.

Carolina is back playing after an extensive delay still leading 2-0 late. Nashville, however, is in a delay in the bottom of the third leading 7-0. Josh Lindbolm had faced the minimum amount of batters until this point.

In a game of home runs, and the wind blowing out to left field, that was a bomb. The man has so much power, so much athleticism (he legged out a double that should have been a single), so much cannon. It's a matter of time. A simple matter of time.

Wow, Wiemer absolutely crushed that!

Keep in mind: the wind was blowing out to left. BUT, keep in mind: Lugbauer hit a HR to left as well (an oppo for him) and it was nowhere near that type of power. Wiemer is a different creature.
