Two Brewers DSL victories get this Saturday started right. Yeah baby! And, the ACL Brewers Gold n Blue were in a tight contest late.

Ultimately, the Brewers Gold pulled out the victory 6-5 and moved to 20-17 on the season. LHP Leoni Cruz picks up his first loss and, it would appear at a glance of the box score, he is going to want a single pitch back as he conceded the losing two-run jack to the Brewers Gold's 3B Carlos Roa in the 8th inning. Cruz has been generally fantastic in 2022 so hats off to the young Roa who smashed just his second HR of his summer off a very good ACL pitcher.

Recently promoted RHP Kevin Briceno (via the DSL Brewers program) continues to garner attention playing for the Brewers Blue. Today he completed 5 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 3 K. In 14 1/3 IP since his promotion, he now has 12 K, 4 BB, 9 H, 5 ER, and batters are hitting sub 0.180, with a WHIP sub 0.90 - WHIP and BA yet to be updated after this game. That's great stuff.

Here's a flashback Brewers Player Development tweet of his DSL work (from June 30th):

On the DSL side of things, we see OF Duncan Garcia manning the CF grass today pushing Luis Lara to RF. Garcia, batting clean-up, went 3-for-5 with his 3rd HR, 2R, 3 RBI, and 2 K's. Meanwhile, INF Richard Rojas (playing the hot corner today) also knocked in 3RBI with a 2-for-4 line, 1 BB, 2 K. DSL Brewers #1 squeak one out against the very formidable DSL Rangers Blue, 8-7. That's a big win for the young men and they move their record to 15-24.

Every DSL Brewers #2 batter had a hit today except lead-off SS Demetrio Nadal - yet, Nadal reached once via a walk. We see our summer DSL darling, Yeison Perez, knocked his 10th 2B of his season keeping that OPS healthily close to 1.100. What a season he is having at the dish! 17-year-old, LHP Jose Meneses, was credited with the victory after 1 2/3 IP, 0 H, 2BB, 0K, 0 R. RHP Jose Cuevas continues to get the Brewers 2 late inning work. He shuts the game down with 2 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 3 K, 2 R (0 ER). And, the Brewers 2 close it out with a 9-6 score moving to 21-19 on the season.

The Timber Rattlers look to get a new streak going filled with 'W's. There isn't a better candidate to piggy back RHP Justin Jarvis' fine work of last evening than the other Timber Rattlers Ace in LHP Antoine Kelly - third in the Midwest League in K's. We see the now familiar top four of the T-Rats lineup - manager Joe Ayrault seems to have something here. Wes Clarke, bats clean-up again, and is one of the more unsung players of July - as I mentioned yesterday he's raised his OPS by 30 points in three days. Impressive stuff. Antonio Piñero's weg gem glove is back at SS while INF Ethan Murray gets the night off. Ashton McGee looks to rediscover his recent hot bat manning 1B and Darrien Miller replaces yesterday's Alex Hall behind home plate.

Good stuff coming tonight in Biloxi with a sneak peak at the transformation RHP (stud) Cam Robinson underwent in his COVID year.

Well, it would appear we have 'one of those' Carolina Mudcat media days - no Game notes as of yet. No Lineup card listed on Twitter. I'll cut them some slack: It is Saturday afterall. RHP Ace Carlos F. Rodriguez is absolutely dealing a No-Hitter so far. I'll give you a screen shot of the line-up here:

The game is knotted up at 0-0 and the Mudcats have their third base-runner aboard (third hit) with two down in the 4th.

OF Corey Ray has been activated from Nashville's 7-Day IL and is back in the lead-off spot for the Sounds and manning the CF grass. Congrats Corey - please stay healthy! Red hot Brice Turang is back at SS and batting the two-hole. Jakson Reetz stays in the line-up in LF, Mario Feliciano stays in the batters box at the DH slot, and vastly underrated Brian Navarreto gets to call the game behind home plate. Let's hope RHP Josh Lindbolm can put a cap on his continued struggles of late and can give the Sounds a modicum of his AAAA stuff. The struggle has been real but that can turn around with just one solid outing.

RHP Carlos Rodriguez is currently extinguishing any takes RHP Alexander Cornielle might be the Mudcats Ace. Whewwww. Through 4 IP, 0 H, 2 BB, 5K. And after getting robbed of a strike 3 call (to strike out the side) in the fourth on an absolute diamond of an inside breaking pitch that had absolutely fooled the batter, he gets the slow ground-out to Eduardo Garcia at shortstop who makes the challenging throw to first. The No Hit bid stands through 4 IP.

Hey it's a RF appearance for Joey Wiemer! Let's hope that hand has healed and he can get hot. Come on Joey, we're all pulling for you. Sal Frelick is in his customary lead-off spot manning the CF grass. The formidable trio remains with Garrett Mitchell manning the right field grass pushing the stellar bat of OF Tristen Lutz into the DH slot batting sixth. INF Cam Devanney is back in the line-up protecting Thomas Dillard who again bats clean-up - stay hot Thomas! With Felix Valerio and Yeison Coca rounding out the infield positions, it's Andruw Monasterio getting a well-deserved rest (they'll probably need an AC unit in the dugout, however, as we all know Andruw is hot lava at the plate in Double-A). RHP Noah Zavolas looks to build off his successful bullpen outing recently in hopes he can finally translate that back to a dominant Start in 2022 - let's see some of that 2021 vintage form, Noah! Hopefully, he can take that cue from the T-Rats RHP Taylor Floyd and his 2 IP, 0ER, 5 K ball just last night!

And, Carlos Rodriguez's ongoing No-Hit work is most likely ending after four innings and 67 IP - the game is currently delayed due to lightning. One down. Zach Raabe on second base after his second walk. It would appear, Rodriguez may be shelved. A heck of a performance.

OF Equarqui Fernandez Is showing out tonight with a 2-for-3 outing and his first HR shot - a solo Jack to give the Mudcats the 1-0 lead in the sixth inning.

RHP Ryan Middendorf escaped a jam in the fifth inning off the rain delay - giving up 2BB and 1H but He also struck out two and is still in-scored upon at Low A.

Antoine Kelly sees that 5-spot T-Rats 1st and spots Cedar Rapids 4 more. Yuck. 6-5 Kernels with 2 down. Kelly continues his inconsistent second half. Bummer.

Can Devanney smacks his 16th dinger while Tristan Lutz smacks his 9th - both solo jacks. Shuckers lead 2-1.

Both these young men have been stellar for some time now at the dish.

RHP Michele Vassalotti can’t maintain the scoreless shutdown work between Carlos Rodriguez and Ryan Middendorf. He struggles through 1 2/3 IP of 5 BB, 2 H, 1K ball giving up 3 ER. Mudcats lose 3-2.

It’s the 3rd inning and OF Tristan Peters has already achieved his 6th straight game with two hits. Please start recognizing the gamer in this young Canuck. He is a damn fine ball player.

Huge win by the T-Rats and that’s now two in a row! Fantastic scoreless work from bullpen mates Joey Matulovich and James Meeker. 7-6 and it’s a wrap!

Nashville made Charlotte sweat a bit, but couldn’t complete the comeback, losing 7-5.

Pablo Reyes exited early after being hit by a pitch in the 8th inning. Something to monitor.

It's too bad that he, like Noah Campbell, seems to be limited defensively to LF.  He's played a little RF, but before Chourio got there they were playing Cipion in RF.

I don't know, my friend. When he's hitting like he's hitting they'll find a place for him. I'd say, CF is the only outfield spot out of the question and they don't really have a need to move him to RF with needing to get Joe Gray Jr. reps (and Chourio in CF). Seventh 2-hit game in a row today. He's taken an already fantastic season and taken it to new levels. He's now approaching many a leaderboard top 5 offensively. He's scrappy. Unassumingly athletic - because he's on the 'smaller' side - but he has decent speed. Not great, but certainly playable and not a negative. But, man, he's really fundamentally sound. Feisty. And just goes 100% every play every game. He's a player you just love to watch. And, to boot, he just doesn't make mistakes - anywhere, really. That's a guy you love in your system. Where he ultimately goes? It's too early to tell. But, he's laying a really really solid foundation. Such a pleasantly surprising season. Other than fellow Canuck Tyler Black he's been, far and away, the best player on the T-Rats roster for those that have been rostered all-season.
