The thing about Counsell is he doesn't show any fire or intensity. Postgame even he never expresses any urgency or accountability. That's a red flag for me. Give me fire and urgency over the Mr. cool we will turn it around someday. Along with several hundred million dollars the Mets got better because Buck is a known hard ass who plays no favorites. Money definitely matters but it isn't everything.

Yeah, because losing your **** makes you more effective.

No. Brewers got him for JBJ after having one of the worst seasons of all time. Nah.

No, they got him for two legitimate prospects. JBJ was probably a negative.

You know what that gets you? A team that plays tight. A team that presses. A Ned Yost team. Not that he yelled at the team per say, but he was always so high strung, his words were less important than his demeanor.

Baseball isn't like other sports. The harder you try, the worse you usually do. Not the more time you put in off the field, the harder you try to get a hit, the harder you try and throw a FB past someone, it has to be relaxed aggression.

I think CC does a great job of that.

Whoa. Go to bed and when I wake up in the middle of the night I find out they came back from the dead and won this one.

I had company and couldn't listen much or join the fun.  From what I did hear, I was ready for another bummer loss.  But a couple of timely HR's can make a person feel a lot better!

I get the idea that CC is seems too cool, blase, uninspired, whatever.  I also get the idea that in a long season you've got to control the temperature and not burn out.  But I really would like to see a few sparks or signs of enthusiasm from the guy once in awhile.

The Red Sox silliness in that trade does NOT change who Renfroe is ... big-time slugger with a very decent batting average and an above-average defender with a top-notch gun for an arm in the outfield!  I like Hunter a lot!  Great head of hair, too!

Really wasn't a "silly" trade. JBJ had 17.4 WAR in 6 years with Boston, never dipping below 2.0(even in 2020) and averaged 4.2 over a full 162 games.

For that, they got Alex Binelas, a 3B prospect who slid to the 3rd round and who has hit 24 HRs this year. He was a guy everyone in this organization was excited about, but it's the price of about 300M less in revenue than Boston. They also got David Hamilton...which isn't nothing. So they paid JBJ 9.5M this year and if he has just a NORMALY year, any other year he'd had with them, they pick up the option. They ended up basically buying two prospects for 10.5M and the likelyhood that JBJ would bounce back.

Not silly, calculated risk.

But hey, Renfroe's nice. He'll probably stick for one more year. He's NOT a foundational piece though. He's over 30, we have FIVE players in the minors who can play in the OF(4 full time OFers) and our top prospect is an OFer. Wiemer is the prototype RFer...and Renfroe is NOT a good defensive RFer.  But he's been a real nice fill in and he'll be a nice gap to Wiemer, Mitchell, Frelick and Ruiz taking full time jobs(or at least a couple of them as they start next year and take over by '24). And by '24, Chourio should be close.

I think he is better than some players that I saw on the all-star rosters.

For instance?

He was like...225/.295 at the ASB.

Really nice player having a really nice year. Probably a good time to sell high on him, but I'd run it back. But definitely NOT a guy you sign to an extension that'll he'll be starting at age 32.

You'd have TWO OFers locked up. What exactly do you want to do with Frelick, Mitchell, Ruiz, Wiemer, Chourio, maybe Tyler Black and Brice Turang? It just...doesn't make sense.

He gets fired up...he goes off on the umps from time to time. But beyond that, unless he goes to the media...which is a GREAT way to tear the team apart, we don't know what else he does.

As of 9/4, this is the first season the Brewers might be underperforming since he's been manager vs several seasons of vastly overperforming. I think he's probably got a good feel.

I like him don't get me wrong. I just think of foundational as a Braun type guy who if healthy you are not moving him. If someone comes to us with a offer I'm taking it and running. He isn't going to make that much of a difference with this crew.

I mean...he crushes LHP'ing. So he has value in that he can play with Mitchell, Frelick, Turang...and what should be a better offense next year.

What you do with him depends entirely on what you decide to do with the two aces. If you keep them, you probably keep him as I just don't think you're getting offered a big prospect for him. But if you are...take it. Roll the dice with Will Myers if he's cheap enough or Mitch Haniger for a year. Both coming off down years, both RHed to fit with the lefties coming up.

It's not hard to envision this team taking a step forward next year. Adames/Urias have abnormally low BABIP, Yelich is just what he is, a good OBP guy, we should have 3 rookies up who can help us, Renfroe, Rowdy and with Burnes, Woody, Peralta, Lauer, Houser, Ashby, Small, Gasser and a whole bunch of the aforementioned prospects, it may not help THIS crew, but he could help next years...if they decide to run it back and maybe supplement the roster a bit.
