We have RHP TJ Shook taking the hill for Biloxi and RHP Brady Schanuel continuing his late season spot starting work for Wisconsin. We are still 'TBD' in Carolina and Nashville as both ball clubs head back to the road to face Myrtle Beach and Charlotte, respectively.

Wisconsin hosts Marlins' High-A affiliate Beloit in their final series of the year, trailing the Snapp...er...uh... Sky Carp by 2 games for 2nd place in the second half of the Midwest League West division. After 99 consecutive relief appearances, RHP Brady Schanuel now makes his 5th straight start (3.20 season ERA; 0.69 ERA in 13 innings over 4 starts). Rehabbing major leaguer Mike Brosseau is manning the hot corner and 1B Ernesto Martinez has a 10-game on-base streak:

This is what it looks like when RHP Logan Henderson has it all going. By far his most dialed outing. Now that he's assigned, maybe we get an extended outing his next time out? Maybe we get him in the AZL? Look at the spin rate and rise on the first heater. Very nice movement on his off-speed pitch mix.

Between him and Gasser, Misiorowski, Rodriguez, etc, I don't think our organizational pitching depth is as bare as some seem to think. Small has been a disappointment, for sure, but on average I would say things are on the up-and-up....

Third pitch. Whewwwww. That baby dies. Incredible pitch. He and Cruz throw a very similar change-up.

I noticed Cruz only went 3 innings in his last start after giving up no runs. Any concerns there?

Not at this time. For some reason, I can't remember why the shortened outing made sense at the time, but it did. It wasn't an injury thing. It was a more sensible reason. @damuelle: do you remember why he was pulled? Wasn't it proximity to his last start?

Carolina's final series of 2022 is on the road against Cubs' affiliate Myrtle Beach, with the Mudcats 5.5 games out of first place for the 2nd half title and 4.5 games out of first place for the best full season record in the Carolina League North division. 19-year old Arielbi Gonzalez (3.88 ERA in 48 2/3 ACL/Low-A innings) makes his first-ever start in Low-A ball, but it may be a short one (relieved 4 days ago). RF Luis Castillo has a 16-game on-base streak:

I was thinking they might have a 100 inning limit for him this year. He only pitched 52 innings last year.

Yeah, I'd expected a short Stiven Cruz start on Sunday, since it was his 2nd outing of the week.

Turang has an ankle injury of some sort

@JeffHemPBP tweet

Jeez, I was imaging that the Cam Devanney promotion to AAA may signal an intention to promote Brice Turang to the big leagues (swapping with Mitchell), but then I saw Mitchell in today's Brewers' starting lineup and here we find out that Turang's nursing a day-to-day ankle injury.

Nashville leads the International League West Division by 4.5 games over Columbus and plays at White Sox AAA affiliate Charlotte this week. RHP Marcus Walden (5.53 ERA in 40 2/3 IP) is a surprise starter after RHP Josh Lindblom was listed in the game notes. CF Sal Frelick and RF Joey Wiemer come in with on-base streaks of 23 games and 14 games, respectively.

Yeah, I'd expected a short Stiven Cruz start on Sunday, since it was his 2nd outing of the week and pitchers Miguel Segura and Tyler Woessner both hadn't appeared for 9 days. In the end, it was Fernando Olguin who got the extra work and was terrific, Segura went on the injured list and I'm not sure of Woessner's status.

You're crossing streams! LOL. Cruz cruised up to Wisconsin. You're thinking of Henderson's last start. Woessner took that comebacker off his pitching arm/hand so there is some concern there and now we see Segura moved to the 7-Day IL. The life of a manager!

Biloxi hosts Braves' AA affiliate Mississippi in their final home series of the season this week (though still headed to take on Pensacola next week) and has RHP TJ Shook (4.25 ERA in 106 High-A/AA innings) ready to handle the opening game. C Jason Lopez has put together an 8-game on-base streak:

Hehe. I guess my mind is all over the place!  Thanks.  Either way, yes, it was Cruz' second start of the week, so a short Sunday start wasn't a surprise. For additional comfort, Cruz is listed in today's game notes as the expected starter on Saturday, September 10th.

Not only is Lindbolm pushed to Thursday, but considering in his last start versus Memphis Walden took a 105 mph line drive off his forehead it's fairly incredible he's right back on the hill today. May we all be blessed with a noggin of steel like Walden's. Whew.

Through three innings of Sounds AB's I can definitively say:

This game certainly has the feel of a Tuesday game in Charlotte. Sheeesh. I'll be heading to Carolina now in hopes this game gets some life.

They've been doing it in the PCL all season, and now Charlotte has been trying it the entire second half of this season. Three challenges are awarded to a team. If you win your challenge, you keep it. If you lose your challenge, you lose it.

You can challenge balls and strikes calls. It's pretty dang awesome. It takes no time. You get the automated strikezone visual and feedback within seconds. On to the next pitch. I love this.
