They put up a fight. just gave up way too many runs to make up

This game reminded me of the early 2000s games. Lots of offense and excitement, but the Brewers never seemed completely out of it (even trailing by six runs). It came down to the tying run at the plate. All-in-all a fun game, minus the loss. I’d much rather watch this type of game vs. the 3-1 losses they have where they only manage a few hits.

I think a better question is why is Alexander in the major leagues.  ERA of 5.40 - WHIP of over 1.7 - in 71 IPs allowed 88 hits, 12 HRs.  - teams are hitting over .300 against him.  Is the Brewers' farm system that horribly weak that they don't have anybody better than a DFA candidate?

Peralta, Lauer, and Ashby hurt; Small ineffective

A healthy Lauer or Peralta today and the Brewers likely sweep.

He's here because they've had to go beyond their first 7 or 8 starting options this season, due to injury & Small being ineffective. Pretty much any team that has to go that deep is turning to AAAA or reclamation type guys. You usually don't have 2-3 prospects in your AAA rotation, but you do have to wonder if he's better than the aforementioned Boushley or Lindblom.

And they just aren't going to go to Gasser. The people on here who aren't bored with the super 2 & arby-eligible stuff like I am can explain that better than I.

You can basically substitute any of these pitchers the second half.   What can you do.     If anyone thinks we are going to get a bunch of consistent starts and bullpen performances the rest of the year you’re kidding yourself

ashby is not going to save the world.    Hell even burnes isn’t an automatic good start either.     This team has one decent pitching performance followed by a crap one and one good offensive performance followed by a crap one.     They are a .500 team and I don’t think playing .500 is enough to make a move

How are they a .500 team if they're 10 games above .500?

32-18 to start the year, 46-50 since.

Yeah, they’re ten games over on the season, & still mathematically alive for the playoffs, but they’ve been mediocre for months now.

With the rotation down to Burnes, Woodruff and a prayer at this point I think the Crew’s current true talent level is closer to a .479 W% (last 96) than it is to a .534 W% (season to date).

To make the playoffs they’ll prolly have to find a way to recapture that First Fifty magic & go like 11-5 down the stretch.

Not impossible, but looking increasingly improbable..

I mean, yeah, but a .500 team is a .500 team and the Brewers, regardless of if they make the playoffs or not, are poised to be easily above a .500 team.

By playing < 0.500 (46-50) since 6-1-22. Trending negative, you know better than that c’mon man. They play way over their head the first 50 games of the season.

I mean, the games played before 6-1 matter, too. Or would you say the Yankees are a below .500 team because that's how they've played for a couple months now?

I’d say at this point in the season they should be concerned the way they are playing. Trending negative before the playoff usually doesn’t work out too well. Remember the Brewers of 2020 and 2021.

They've been playing good ball over the last week and a half or so. Whether or not they'll be able to make up the ground they need remains to be seen. Injuries have really gutted the rotation.

I’d love to see them make the playoffs and make some noise, but you need to be realistic., or you’ll set yourself up for disappointment. Obviously it matters how you are currently playing and who’s playing and who is injured and are out.

I expect them to miss the playoffs. But I will still be cheering hard for them to do so. They're playing better and will need to continue that going forward.

I’m right with you brother. But my expectations will be tempered.

Alexander was a pretty good signing for what he is--An AAAA pitcher you can call up when there are injuries among your top 7 starting pitchers. He's just been used way too much. I guess they should have acquired a generic #5 SP at the deadline, but they were too optimistic about the guys they had.

They're chasing two teams; all that has to happen is one of them (relatively) sucks for the rest of the year. ESPN has them as a 30% probability of making the playoffs, but I think that slightly underestimates their chances. Picking up one game vs. either Philly or SD will significantly improve their chances.

And they are playing .700 ball the last 10 games, so they're not trending negative at all. There are ups and downs during any season.
